OUCH.. yet i agree with you 100%.

the thing is that Aoki went to Thailand to train some Muay Thai for Eddie Alverez fight... i wonder what happened to that...? Wait that means he knows he needs to step it up on striking area... i certainly hope so.

*video Shinya training in Thailand is in youtube.com

Sherk would fcuk up, guys like Thompson and Melendez would as well. Tyson Griffin, Kenny Florian are all better fighters than Aoki. He is just hype. His LW wins arent even that good. There are at least 5-6 guys in the UFC that would KO him in the first round. Alvarez mnade a stupid mistake and would beat him in a rematch. Any wrestler that can strike would mess this fool up.

I thought you gave up with this "argument"? Your opinion of what fighters would beat Aoki means absolutely nothing. Sherk would probably beat Aoki in the UFC where wrestlers have a huge advanytage in both the cage and judges, but not in japan where they don't put such a ridiculous amount of weight upon "octagon control".

As to the loss in 2008 you speak of, against Hansen, it doesn't have that much weight for two reasons. 1) he has already beaten hansen before, 2) it was a tournament format in which he had just fought another tough LW. Penn doesn't have any comparable fights so it is ridilous to compare. Plus, you still haven't actually addressed the fact that Penn's only big win at LW recently is against Sherk. That's it.

Why does he have to "evolve"? He has perfected submission MMA. Is this any different than a standup fighter who only trains enough wrestling and jitz to keep the fight for where he wants? Not really. I'm sure he has trained enough striking and wrestling to aide his submission game. I have no idea why you think he needs to "evolve" when he is enormously successful the way he does it.

Not stories, and she doesn't like MMA and won't let me watch it on her TV.

I wish I was lying about the "She won't let me watch MMA on her TV" part.

Aoki is afraid to fight? Dude got his face smashed in by JZ and continued to beat him on the ground. Aoki just uses what he does best: His BJJ.

I think Aoki should be ranked higher than BJ just because he has more wins over better opponents. BJ would almost definately beat Aoki if they ever fought IMO but that doesn't really mean much in terms of rankings.

Yea, Aoki lost to Hansen, but it was in a tourny after Aoki had a 3-round war with Uno, while Hansen's first fight lasted only 2 and a half minutes against a nobody. You said Alvarez just made a stupid mistake and would beat Aoki in a rematch, but that same exact thing could be said about Aoki and Mach.

I love Penn just as much as you jdun, but as of right now...TODAY...Aoki has beaten better opponents at LW. I do agree with you that BJ would beat him if they fought, and I do agree with you that Aoki is super one-dimensional and is not going to stay on top for much longer if he doesn't evolve his game. But other than that I think you're not using a lot of logic in ranking BJ over Aoki.

BJ has Sherk and Stevenson, and I dunno if Pulver is even worth mentioning.

Aoki has JZ, Uno, and Alvarez. Then 3 other wins that are comparable to BJ's win over Pulver in Nagata, Gardner, and Moore.

I think if BJ would fight more at LW he would have the #1 spot pretty easily. He just doesn't fight enough right now. If BJ beats Florian, I will probably put him at #1. So I basically think you just made this thread a little too early.
