DREAM 10 Welterweight Matchups Set: High vs. Galvao, Sakurai vs. Zaromskis

DREAM 10 Welterweight Matchups Set: Jason High vs. Andre Galvao, Hayato Sakurai vs. Mariusz Zaromskis by Leland Roling on May 14, 2009 9:14 AM EDT 12 comments
According to MMAWeekly, the DREAM 10 Welterweight Grand Prix Semifinal bracket has been set. Sources close to Jason High's camp confirmed that he will, in fact, take on highly-touted Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner Andre Galvao on July 20th:
Jason High will face off with jiu-jitsu ace Andre Galvao at Dream 10 on July 20 at Saitama Super Arena. The news was confirmed Wednesday by a source close to the Affliction veteran.

The eight-man tournament is the second-to-last weight class featured in the promotion’s tournament focus, and will be followed by a "Super Hulk" open weight tournament on May 26 featuring several inherently Japanese match-ups.
With the matchup set, that leaves Croation bruiser Mariusz Zaromskis taking on Aoki killer Hayato Sakurai.

These are some very interesting matchups, but I have no doubt that it's setting up a Galvao vs. Sakurai finale. High is going to have a very tough time utilizing any of his wrestling ability against Galvao, and Galvao has a surprisingly good standup game coupled with solid power.

Sakurai has a much easier matchup in Zaromskis on paper, although Zaromskis has huge power and dynamic striking ability in utilizing kicks mixed with overhands. Sakurai has a big experience edge, so I'm more inclined to believe he can defeat Zaromskis in the semifinal to move on. A much anticipated showdown between Sakurai and Galvao could make this final one of the books. Sakurai has always been very good at avoiding the submission, but can he escape Galvao? We'll see how DREAM 10 goes down before resorting to those questions.

Man I really really want to see Galvao vs. Sakurai in the finals- great test for Andre in his early career going up against just an experienced fighter in Hayato. My dream final would have been Aoki-Galvao is a creamy submission face-off but Hayato's brutal knees ended all that. Still with these fights plus Aoki-Hansen 3 for the DREAM LW title belt- already a great and entertaining card.

I saw the prelims via HDNET and everyone but Galvao looked average. Nothing exciting, nothing badass.

Galvao looks like a younger W.Silva. It seemed like he had a hammer he hit so hard. I heard he was world champ bjj guy. He'll win easy.
