Jdun's thoughts on Dream 9

#1 Like Ive said 1,000 times. American wrestlers are better than Japanese wrestlers, thus Joe Warren beat Kid. Ive always said Faber would beat Kid because of his wrestling and pace. I would be countered by tons of posters with Kid's olympic level wrestling credentials and K-1 striking skills and Faber wouldnt be able to take kid down. Well its safe to say, Kid is not THAT good of a wrester and has been overrated for years. So Faber > Kid, like ive always said.

#2 Holy shit, Canseco surprised the shit out of me. With his sexy as fcuck girlfriend as his cornerman, and having been self trained. The dude did way better than I thought, way better! I thought he was going to flop instantly but he actually faught the dude. Gotta give him props.

#3 Moussasi is a freaking monster. He is top 5 p4p, and if he came to the UFC he would dethrone Anderson Silva in impressive fashion. This guy is unbelievable, he needs to come and show America and Dana who the best MW in the world is. Shit, I think he could even beat Machida. This guy is a wrecking machine.

#4 Can we end the JZ hype now? I bought into to it a little bit, that he was a real tough dude. But some of you guys, thought he would beat BJ and all types of other crazy shit. His wrestling and TDD isnt as good as I thought and dudes like Sherk, Edgar, and Griffin would tear him up. Ive always had Kawijiri in my top 10 and said he was one of the few LW's over in Japan that would do well in the UFC, he had a good showing. These guys are both tough, but I think Kawi took a little of the swaga away from all this JZ greatness. If he is still ranked ahead of Kenflo and Edgar, I will be upset.

#5 I love freak shows, and this card had a bunch of them Bob Sapp, I just dont understand you and your gameplans. Sokky beating up the dude that beat Sapp was cool. His hammerfists look a little whacky to me, but whateva, they did the job lol

#6 Jacare and Mayhem was going to be a cool fight. I wish it woulda ended differently. Both are solid and entertaining MW's. Im surprised neither are in the UFC, they deserve it. I understand the UFC cant sign EVERY good fighter. But if Maia could come in and do what hes doing. Why not Jacare? Tell me Maia vs Jacare wouldnt be a DOPE as fight!

#7 Imanari was disappointing. I just guys like him evolve their game. They are only hurting themselves. I really wanna know how much guys like Imanari, Aoki and guys at that camp train on strking and wrestling. Is it just me or do Japanese fighters, not evolve? They seem set in one dicipline and just master that one thing. I love watching fighters who have mastered a particular craft. It just sucks when they cant use it and they are useless.

#8 My boy Mark Hunt, is looking really bad lately. I would have bet the house against him in this fight. I just didnt think he would look as bad as he did.

#9 Takaya is a badass. Maeda is tuff ****in dude and Takaya looked great against him.

All in all, interesting fights. There are things in Dream that I like and things I dont like. Its not the UFC, but it doesnt try to be which is cool. I dont feel like Im watching kareoke MMA, like I do when I watched Elite Xc or even Affliction. They put on a good show.

I didn't predict some of the fights would turn out like they did. I've lost all my credits, except for Mousasi who luckily beat Hunt. Bob Sapp can't even beat Minowa now. Yamamoto was a huge dissapointment. And I agree, Calvacante is extremely over-hyped.

KID did the majority of his wrestling career in the US. Ring rust, he couldn't pull the trigger. Warren used good takedowns and has a set of whiskers. Despite that he dominated on the feet. Close fight

I dont bet on those matches in Japan. Crazy shit seems to happen. Whether its bad judging or weird matchups Its just tough to predict.

But I knew Warren was going to beat Kid, knew it!

Time off with knee surgeries aren't good. As you saw with Shogun jdun. The whole US wrestling vs Japanese wrestling program also doesn't apply since the US by numbers has more wrestlers competing at a high level than the Japanese.

I know he trained out in Arizona I believe? Not sure on that. But people assumed that because he was going to make the Japanese Olympic wrestling team, that he was this Kosckeck, Lindland, Couture type wrestler when he wasnt.

It was a close fight. But Joe Warren is no Urijah Faber. Faber would have put it on Kid. If Kid came over to WEC for a 5 rounder with Faber, Faber would finish him. No question about it. Same for Mike Brown, too big, too strong and too good of wrestlers. Kid needs to fight at 135. Him and Torres would be dope. But hes even too small for Torres, he'd have to get inside.

I actually like Kid, but always thought he was overhyped. I believe Damone finally came over to my side and said Faber would whoop Kid. But mostly everyone else said Kid would wreck him.

His senior year at high school and entire college career were at Arizona.

Injuries and time away from the sport hurt Kid's chances for the freestyle team. There two are very evenly matched, but Kid has the better standup (especially once he gets the rust off) and that one punch ko power.

Abel Cullum needs a new corner or camp, desperately.

lol @ Sapp going for Minowaman's back

I hope Sokoudjou can keep fighting lower level guys, get some experience that he should have gotten earlier in his career. Instead Mousassi might sub him

Ring rust was an issue for sure. Whether it was injuries or whether its him wanting to do all type of crazy shit, he hasnt been fighting. I just think that 145lb weight class has gotten alot better over the last couple years and as a whole is a much tougher division.

Kid is 5'2, he shouldnt be fighting at 145.

Great write-up there Jdun. And I agree, I wouldn't bet on Japanese fights as there always seems to be some crazy stuff happening.

But this was a great event, I loved that Tokoro/Cullum fight. It was non-stop action from the beginning to the end.

The Mayhem/Jacare fight was so disappointing. This was the fight i was looking forward to the most. There first fight was a war. On the bright side, im sure that there third fight will be explosive and that much better because of the way this one ended.
