I love me some Mark Hunt, but it's getting harder and harder to be his fan these days. Perhaps there's no shame in losing to Mousasi, but the fact that loss was Hunt's fifth in a row should be a wakeup call for the New Zealander.
Dude needs to decide whether he wants to be an MMA fighter or not. Whatever he's doing to prepare for fights -- and I get the impression it's not much at all -- isn't working anymore.
Remember when he beat Cro Cop? Remember when he went more than eight minutes with Fedor? Remember when Dana White was interested in signing him?
He still has his chin, his power and his size, but he needs to get in touch with a decent camp to make the most of those attributes. Otherwise, he's just going to keep embarrassing himself.
I don't think he has passion for the sport anymore. Usually when a fighter steps in to fight, you can see a certain look on their face. To me it seems like Hunt just doesn't care.
Good post, I've been wondering what's going since the ultra quick knockout from Manhoef. Especially with the type of chin he has. He has fought very tough competition in the past two years.
Hunt is in my top 10 favorite fighters. He is a very good kickboxer. He has good speed for a big man and he has knockout power. His ground game.....sucks, but he can improve it with a good camp. My thoughts would be the Red Devil team or something like the Black House team. He needs a ground game ASAP.
He def stopped caring after a point - or just realised his chin wasn't awesome any more... It is sad. Not CroCop sad but still. I wish he would try steroids or something... Maybe hgh?
I was just telling the wife last night how it is going to suck when todays MMA legends start retiring for good. Think of the guys that will be going in the next couple years. Randy, Chuck, Hendo, Hughes, Coleman, Hopefully K. Shamrock , ....
There are a ton more. The guys that got us watching the sport to begin with are simply getting too old to keep up with the younger, more well-rounded guys out there. It just sucks.
A history of a iron chin and getting ko'd by a 185 pound fighter is not good, I think the Moose rocked him as well.
