Damn refs, giving a fighter time because of a groin shot. It is so obvious that they only did it because they are japanese like Aoki. Damn Aoki sucks.

*did I lay that sarcasm on thick enough?*

I Tivo'd it, and it didn't really look like a bad groin shot. It looked like he got a small nut shot and then in "selling" it, he fell into an upkick. I dunno, I'll have to watch it again, I suppose. And it didn't look like any of his handlers were tending to his balls during his timeout.

And him repeatedly turning away from Hansen's punches mid-punch, to turn them into "punches to the back of the head" was pretty weak as Mezger and Schiavello pointed out.

Not impressed.

Penn would annhilate him. (and I'm no Penn fan)

I agree, he should've let Rashad hit Liddell 4-5 more times, early stoppage.

what would you do? See the punches coming and just sit there and take it in the face? Seriously, turning your head so your opponent can't hit you is pretty smart to me. Isn't that the point of fighting... to avoid damage while inflicting as much as you can? Unless you think being hit in the face like a man is somehow the right way to fight.

Yes.

Yes, I would lay there and eat punches. 'Cos I'm that tough.

But you missed my point. Hansen was throwing legal punches. But then Aoki would turn his head in the middle of the legally thrown punch, and look at the ref expecting Hansen to be penalized or something... The commentators even made note of it. It was pretty weak.

If he had done it in defense as you note above that's fine. But then when he adds the Hey-ref-I'm-FancyPants-Protect-Me look at the ref, that's where it gets shady.

Am I the only one that got a good laugh at him looking at Hansen to confirm that he had been kicked in the head before he "fell over in pain"? I dont know how much that kick to the groin or the kick to the head hurt, he probably deserved his five minutes, but he didnt need to over sell it like that.

he got kicked two times in the head after the groin shot so maybe he was a bit rocked, I don't know for sure.

exactly, and he kicked him twice in the face BTW, But at the same time it wasnt exactly Hansen's fault either, the ref didnt even know he had been kicked in the groin and he didnt stop the fight.

I don't know what vid you're watching. The second he was kicked in the nuts his knees buckled. He only looked back at Hansen after the first head kick and it was like "wtf dude?"

He looked at Hansen and then fell over "in pain". If your really hurt enough to fall over like that then you probably wouldnt give a shit if Hansen confirmed that he had done you wrong. He was selling that like funnel cake at the fair.
