The unlikely winner of DREAM's 2009 "Super Hulk" open-weight tournament, Ikuhisa Minowa (44-30-8), will return to action at the upcoming DREAM.13 event in March.
DREAM officials recently announced the addition of Minowa to the card while simultaneously awarding him a belt for the "Super Hulk" title.
An opponent for Minowa has yet to be determined for the March 22 event in Yokohama, Japan.
After opening 2009 with a unanimous-decision loss to Katsuyori Shibata, Minowa defeated the massive Bob Sapp and equally imposing Hong Man Choi in the open-weight tournament's opening two rounds. Both fighters succumbed to leg locks, and Minowa, the smallest man in the eight-fighter field, booked his spot in the finals.
This past New Year's Eve, Minowa then defeated Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou via third-round TKO at "Dynamite!! 2009" to claim the "Super Hulk" crown.
Prior to the official title presentation, "The Punk" had only received a commemorative belt designed by a third-grade school girl who dreamed of having her picture taken with the ultra-popular near-14-year veteran.
DREAM.13 features a featherweight title match between current champ Bibiano Fernandes and former lightweight champ Joachim Hansen in the evening's only official matchup to date. UFC, PRIDE and DEEP veteran Ryo Chonan is also expected to compete on the card against an opponent to be named later.
The event airs in North America on HDNet.
