As is they're not high payers to begin with. I think Overeem gets a ton of publicity in the states whenever he shows up and now he's in a position to have a spotlight whenever he fights here. If I had to guess Id say he's looking to finally try to make a run at a serious HW rank.

Who knows.

Except he is under contract to both Dream and Strikeforce.

Why? Ricco is a far bigger fight than anyone else he has fought in Dream with the exception of Cro Cop.

And he's tough too.
But he was just surrounded by Fedor and Werdum talk. If he picks up a win here can become a top 5 HW on a nationally televised stage. What good is going to come out of fighting Ricco Rodriguez in Japan for him?

I don't really keep up to much with the Japanese promotions, but I do like watching the dream and Sengoku events on HDNET. I was looking at my DVR guide today and it showed the Dream 15 event on the 10th. In the description it says:
Quote:

Shinya Aoki defends his title against Tatsuya Kawajiri; Alistair Overeem fights Gegard Mousasi.
|
I thought what, really? I think it would be an interesting fight, but I just couldn't believe Mousasi was fighting Overeem. Apparently I was right. I figured I would have heard about this fight sooner.

More fights added to DREAM 15:
Quote:
With the event just a week away, DREAM officials have added four official bouts to the hard-to-fill DREAM.15 fight card.
Bouts include middleweights Karl Amoussou (11-2-2 MMA, 0-0 DREAM) vs. Kazuhiro Nakamura (14-10 MMA, 0-0 DREAM), featherweights Michihiro Omigawa (10-8-1 MMA, 0-0 DREAM) vs. Young Sam Jung (0-2 MMA, 0-0 DREAM), and featherweights Mitsuhiro Ishida (18-6-1 MMA, 2-1 DREAM) vs. Daiki "DJ.taiki" Hata (11-6-3 MMA, 1-1 DREAM).
Additionally, a light-heavyweight bout MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) previously reported between light heavyweight Gegard Mousasi (28-3-1 MMA, 6-0 DREAM) and Jake O'Brien (13-3 MMA, 0-0 DREAM) also was made official.
DREAM.15 takes place July 10 at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. It airs in North America on HDNet.
Amoussou, a longtime M-1 fighter who recently made his Strikeforce debut with a draw against Trevor Prangley, is undefeated over his past four fights and 6-1-1 since early 2008. He now meets a fellow DREAM newcomer in Nakamura, a PRIDE, UFC and World Victory Road veteran who rebounded from a 2-5 skid with an April unanimous-decision win over legend Hidehiko Yoshida.
Omigawa, who's also competed in top organizations such as the UFC, looks for his fourth straight win following a 5-1 run in WVR and a unanimous-decision win over WEC vet Micah Miller at an April ASTRA event. He meets South Korean Young, whose two SpiritMC fights resulted in quick first-round knockout losses.
Ishida, meanwhile, fights for the first time since a lopsided decision loss to Strikeforce champ Gilbert Melendez in August. Prior to the title fight, he suffered a TKO loss to Mizuto Hirota at a Shooto event, and he's now posted back-to-back losses for the first time in his career. He looks to rebound against Hata, who recently snapped a five-fight undefeated streak with a unanimous-decision loss to Kazuyuki Miyata at DREAM.11.
The latest DREAM.11 card now includes:
* Champ Shinya Aoki vs. Tatsuya Kawajiri (for lightweight title)
* Melvin Manhoef vs. Tatsuya Mizuno (light-heavyweight grand prix opening round)
* Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante vs. Katsunori Kikuno
* Karl Amoussou vs. Kazuhiro Nakamura
* Michihiro Omigawa vs. Young Sam Jung
* Gegard Mousasi vs. Jake O'Brien (light-heavyweight grand prix opening round)
* Daiki "DJ.taiki" Hata vs. Mitsuhiro Ishida
