The greatest fighter who never won a K-1 WGP

With mlsman putting in so much effort to get the K-1 board some action ( Thanks mls!! ) I thought I would assist and put up a thread as well.

As many of you know, the K-1 board has been dead for some time and a few of us are really pumped to get some exchanges going in here.

If you are a fan of MMA and you find yourself drawn to the fighters that are predominantly strikers then K-1 is the place for you. K-1 showcases the worlds greatest strikers in a yearly GP. Even if you are an MMA fan that isn't really a fan of the striking, K-1 may just change your point of view.....These guys are the definition of WORLD CLASS strikers so make sure you take the time to check out the fighters being showcased around the K-1 forum.

For those of you that are fans of K-1 already I thought that I would ask for your opinions on who you think is the greatest fighter that has NEVER won the WGP.

My nomination goes to my boy Jerome LeBanner. This juggernaut has fought and beaten everybody who is anybody in the world of K-1 at some point in his career, as a matter of fact he has beaten many of them more than once. Its a shame that Geronimo was never able to capitalize and take a WGP. LeBanner was a respected and feared competitor that brought the very real possibility of a brutal KO every time he stepped into the ring. The fact that he came back and competed after what should have been a career ending injury at the hands ( or should I say feet ) of Ernesto Hoost is testament to his toughness and love of the sport. With that said I think Jerome was more than talented enough to have a WGP title and it surprises me that he never did and others that were less worthy do.

Check out this LeBanner KO HL showcasing one of the most prolific KO artists in the history of K-1.

Please post your opinions gentleman and keep the K-1 love coming!!!

I have to agree with you on Lebanner being the greatest to never win a WGP. He has so much talent and heart you got to feel bad for him that he hasn't won one yet. I really thought the Hoost fight may be the end of him but he came back to show the true spirit of a warrior, now if we could get all fighters to do this.

Yep, I wish more guys would show that kind of heart. It stands to show that the guys that fought since the inception of K-1 were warriors. I hope that a new class of fighters will step up and take the place of these fading greats. Aerts is really the only one left and it will be sad to see him go as he's the last of the old school class.

I wish that LeBanner could have won a WGP but even though he didn't he still won the respect of the K-1 world.

I'm interested in seeing how they rebuild the HW's since they were so dependent on the greats that are now pretty much all gone.

I'm interested in seeing how that division plays out too. With so many guys going into MMA it seems like K-1 has thinned out a bit in the HW department. Hopefully some of these young bucks will go the K-1 route instead.

I hope so, it just seems that in every sport the HW division is just lacking talent. Hopefully the lighter guys will get more people interested and keep some fighters away from mma (really weird to hear myself say that).

It makes sense to think that way though. So many of the guys going into MMA just don't really have what it takes to compete at the highest level because their ground games but they may be excellent strikers. If you take away the ground game they would really be able to excel as pure strikers.

Very true, even my boy Aerts ventured into mma.

Yeah!! Oyama tapped that boy out quick style! lol

Aerts is a perfect example of a guy that is the shiznit in the striking department and has no need to venture into the world of ground fighting. My boy LeBanner has dipped into MMA as well. By the way, how do you see CC vs LeBanner going?

If Cro Cop is smart he will take Lebanner down and gnp away. But Cro Cop is a proud man and I think he will try and stand and trade with LeBanner making this more of a K-1 fight than an mma fight. As much as I love LeBanner I got to go with Cro Cop in this one. How about you?
