Is a Semmy Schilt reign good for K-1?

***If*** Semmy gets past Le Banner and retains his super heavyweight title, do you see Schilt's reign a good thing or a bad thing?

Schilt has won the past three Grand Prix's and is the super heavyweight champ. K-1 has never really had a fighter have a reign before like what Semmy could possibly have. There have been some great fighters that have won consecutive Grand Prix's but then they lost due to the excellent talent that K-1 had at heavyweight. Where as Semmy only has a few real contenders to face. So with a weaker heavyweight division and only a few good prospects out there it seems like Semmy is going to be at the top of the heap for awhile but does this hurt K-1?

Give your thoughts and opinion on this situation because I'm curious as to what people think.

hasnt he won three in a row? 05 06 and 07

i think his reign is a bad thing though, not because he keeps winning but the level of competition is low which has nothing to do with him. it doesnt bother me if a champion keeps winning good fights against quality opponents but if he starts beating opponents who are clearly below him it gets boring and is bad for the sport

I think it's bad if his reign continues because there aren't quality opponents for him to fight. Like doburg said I have no problem watching a fighter have a dominant reign as long as they are beating top opponents but once they start to fight lower opponents it kind of taints it a little.

I'll take that bet if you want. I'll have to think of something clever for you to put in your sig if JLB wins.

I'll take that bet. Let me think of something sweet for you too put when JLB takes Semmy out.

I put earlier in the thread that I thought a Schilt reign would not be good for K-1, allow me to elaborate now.
IMO opinion Schilt came into K-1 in the dying days of the WGP. He has never beat any of the greats when they were in thier so to me he doesn't impress. I know its not his fault that he came in later but unfortunetly he missed the glory days of the WGP. He doesn't carry the same amount of respect into the ring with him as the legends do.

I would like to see his reign ended by JLB for several reasons. Obviously the number 1 reason is because I swing from JLB's nuts like a monkey from a tree. lol

Seriously though I think that at this point the WGP needs some of its old luster back to raise its popularity and JLB brings that element. After such a long career and so many memorable fights he brings something that Schilt can't. The fact that so many fans would be satisfied to see JLB get the "Big win" that has eluded him all these years leads me to believe that it would add the buzz the WGP needs at this point. I call it the "Couture Effect", something about an old time great coming in and pulling off what seems impossible leads to a euphoria that can't be matched any other way. That is what K-1 needs IMO.
