The Red Scorpion updates his situation

If anyone was quiet and illusive in pro kick fighting apart from the fact that he lives in the far corner of planet earth, it is Alexei Ignashov. Recently connected to a managerial deal with Team Hardcore in Holland, he spoke exclusively to to clarify the situation.

He is still a free agent and spoke of a possible deal which may have been brokered through New Zealand kick boxing’s most “creative” mind-Dixon “Don” McIver. Speaking about his potential fight with Bjorn Bregy and being part of Team Hardcore, Ignashov was very much interested and awaited confirmation from Holland.

Furthermore confirming that Dixon McIver is not his representative and his management is on a free lance basis to anyone who wants his presence on a fight card. When contacted Dixon McIver, he went on record as "I wish only to help Ignashov to make contact with Team Harcore as a freind and person who backed him from the start-- I do not wish to be a medium or a scape goat for something i am not responsible. Hopefully the deal with Henk (Kuipers) works out and he gets to fight. There is nothing for me to gain in this".

Initial reports from Netherlands which suggested that Team Hardcore, have secured Ignashov and his signature is somewhat premature and is in the process of finalising his appearance, October 5th. Further adding that any potential “misunderstandings” with promoter and team boss Henk Kuipers are being rectified, as he will be his own and sole representative for managerial discussions.

Q. So we hear you are fighting with Bjorn Bregy on Oct 5th, KO Events in Holland-how is the preparation going for that fight?

AI. Actually Dixon (McIver) rang not so long ago to asked me, but from what I have just learned, he and Henk made some kind or agreement long before Dixon asked me if I want to fight.

Q. So they haven't contacted you about this fight or offered a contract?
AI: Dixon was the only person that Henk talked to, but we are going to find out more in case we have misunderstanding when we arrive in Holland.

Q. Are you happy to then fight in Holland in October 5th?
AI: Of course I am happy to fight in Holland, but I need to let them know and confirm that Dixon is no longer representing me.

Q. So who manages you now, who look after your affairs at the moment?
AI: At the moment, it's only Lollo and myself. They can contact Lollo or direct to me for future events.

Q. There has been calls that you should move overseas and base your self close to the action -- what have you got to say to this?
AI: Dixon and Sergei (my former management team) had suggested that I should move to the Hardcore team to train and go under their management, but I prefer to stay here in New Zealand and train with Lollo. I am sure Henk and his team are very good to train with as they have many strong fighters, but it's not about which country or where I train, but more to do with myself. I just need to focus more, train hard and keep my dream alive of winning the K-1Grand Prix in the future, no matter where I train or who I trains with.

Q. So you think, Lollo is the key person to be with?
AI: Lollo, Spike, Isi, Mika and all the guys at Balmoral Lee Gar gym are all there to help and support me, but at the end, it's all up to me to push myself hard and stay consistent.

Q. Are you happy with things in New Zealand and look forward to being here?
AI: Yes, I love being here in New Zealand and hopefully I get a chance to bring the K-1 Grand Prix title back here to NZ in the future.

Q. Most argue that you are not the old Iggy, however still there is a lot of Interest to get you on shows by promoters, why do you fight sparingly (selectively)?
AI: Actually I'm not so selective as I am hungry to fight. There was some misunderstanding because a matchmaker from Europe tried to set up two different fights for me in May and in June, but they contacted a wrong person. This person didn't pass on the message to Lollo or myself, so I did not fight, but it was not because I was selective.

It was because I did not know about it. Of course I am not the old Iggy. I'm a lot smarter now and hopefully with the training we are doing now; I will be a lot stronger and fitter than before. Remember I am only 30 years young.

Q. If and when the Bregy fight happens, will you have some pay back-you lost last time on points?
AI: If I fight Bregy, I will just fight him because I need to fight to build my name back up again. I don't care about the past. I am more focused on the future now and where I am going.

Q. Any final thoughts?
AI: I just want all promoters out there to know that if you are interested in giving me a fight in your promotion, please contact my trainer Lollo or my team directly. Please do not contact Dixon McIver. Oh yeah, I love to read through my interpreter-so everybody should try and read it, it’s a good magazine! Thanks for your time and support!!!

Good to see things going well.
