Ratings for Dynamite ok
Quote:
Dynamite!! Part 1 (19:00-21:00) 11.8%
Dynamite!! Part 2 (21:00-23:00) 12.9%
Dynamite!! Part 3 (23:00-23:24) 8.4%
Before the event Tanigawa said they were aiming for 15% and over. It’s even worse than last year and much worse than the years before that. I guess this shows how important fighters such as KID and Masato are.
Compared to the last couple of years:
2007:
11.1% 18:00-20:30
14.7% 20:30-23:00
11.1% 23:00-23:34
2006:
16.3% 18:00-20:30
19.9% 20:30-23:05
10.1% 23:05-23:34
Ratings revisited:
Another look at the Dynamite!! ratings. Some people might think that the Sakuraba fight was in the part that had the lowest rating. However, here are the fights in each part:
Part 1: Minowaman, Andy, Koshien Semifinals, Kyshenko, Sakurai, Tokoro
Part 2: Alistair, Kawajiri, Sapp, Mirko, Koshien Final, Mousasi, Aoki, Sakuraba
Part 3: Manhoef, Schilt
Also, now that all ratings are in, we see that TBS got the second/third best rating on NYE with Dynamite. Of course, NHK won with the song contest, but after that was Dynamite!! or the comedy show (which is really fun) on Nippon TV which got around the same ratings.
How the channel does versus other channels should be more important than the ratings number. So this isn’t a catastrophe in any way, especially considering KID and Masato didn’t participate. But it isn’t good either.

It doesnt make sense to me why they do not promote and broadcast in the US. If they are struggling so much in Japan they have to realize that currently the US is the hotbed of MMA and they would drastically improve ratings by having it broadcast here.

True that, like how hard would it be to get on HDnet for these guys, Ill tell ya it would be the easiest thing ever.
Thinkin about it, doesn't HDnet have some sort of deal with K-1 for 09'? I know that they have a deal wit DREAM.

It was sort of HDNet and EventMagic.com's fault for dropping the ball on this. Had they had picked up Dynamite! it would have been money for everyone, but they didn't.
I hate when broadcasters are iffy about picking up certain things.
Anywho, I completely understand why the numbers are so low. Tanigawa has said himself that the interest in MMA has dropped significantly in Japan over the last 2 years.
But it's crazy to see last years K-1 ratings being so high even though they were on at the same time as Yarennoka.

MMA just doesn't matter as much in Japan anymore. I mean that's why K-1 tried to put one of Japan's favorite fighters Aoki vs the hated Akiyama even though the match up was the most retarted thing ever.
Hopefully Dream and WVR can stay on TV because I really enjoy watching both. Maybe they will work together and I'll get to see Aoki sub Gomi, Santiago vs Mousasi, and Overeem vs Barnett.

I did fall asleep in the middle of the opening presentation...could've had something to do with it.
