As twenty-o-nine heralds a new beginning for Alexei Ignashov with his picture already on a fight poster, there is much to be gained from his air time and many a dollar in waiting. Incidentally, reliable sources have confirmed to roguemag.com that ‘Iggy’ may fight Czech republican Peter Vondracek, who he has beaten comprehensively in the past. It may the perfect warm up and re-introduction for Ignashov back in to K1.

An all too familiar result with Vondracek waylaid by Ignashov back in May, 2006 will give fans and ‘Red Scorpion’ plenty of cheer, knowing he is possibly one result away from getting a shot at a qualifier tournament or future super fights, leading to an eventual spot for the final sixteen qualifiers.

Presently based in Auckland he will move into camp with trainer Lollo Heimuli who has his hands full prepping heavy weight boxer Shane ‘Mountain Warrior’ Cameron for a March seventh fight and then, a multi million dollar ‘Fight of the century’ against David Tua, come June sixth.

Heimuli has expressed concerns over his work schedule with Cameron towards later in the year which could see Ignashov having to move camp; that is a distinct possibility.

This re-entry of Belarusian’s most famous kick fighter is thanks to his re-alignment with former manager Igor Jushko.
