Ok I have always been a UFC fan my whole life I have recently got into other orgs like Dream, Affliction, Strikeforce and I started checking out all the Pride FC fights I missed. I have no interest in Boxing in fact I probobly couldn't even list off 5 fighters but I like the idea of K-1.
K-1 is a combat sport that combines stand up techniques from Muay Thai, Karate, Savate, San shou, Kickboxing and traditional Boxing to determine the single best stand-up fighter in the world (the "1").
The only problem is I don't know any fighters and don't know where to start. Can someone help me out and list of a few of the greatest fights ever? Maybe some backround info when K-1 started etc the best fighters I should know and all that?
As far as greatest fights ever i cant help you there sadly as i have only started watching a year ago. But i would recommend you go into the K-1 video thread as im sure MLS had added them while he was here. Names to look out for would be Peter Aerts, Ernesto Hoost and Andy hug while in there as they all have great fights.
For the back ground info its best to read the History of K-1 on wikipedia.
There are 2 types of K-1 GP's. The first and oldest one is the K-1 World Grand Prix which focuses on HW-SHW fighters(past champions). Some notable fighters would be Remy Bonjasky, Peter Aerts, Badr Hari, Gokhan Saki, Melvin Manhoef, and Tyrone Spong.
The second type of K-1 GP's would be K-1 World MAX GP. MAX stands for Middleweight Artistic Xtreme. Notable fighters would be Albert Kraus, Masato, Buakaw Por.Pramuk, Andy Souwer and Artur Kyshenko
All of the fighters metioned are in the Video thread. Hope this helps you out.
Just watched this and it is pretty epic. And they are about to fight again in May so i am really looking forward to this. If i think any more ill post them.
I'm definitely not a huge K-1 guy but for a decent UFC-K-1 tie-in with one of my favorite K-1 fighters check out Michael McDonald schooling a very young Mirko:
Check out:
Andy Hug (rip)
Ernesto Hoost (Mr. Perfect - watch a hl reel of his and you'll see why)
Peter Aerts
Remy Bonjasky
Jerome Le Banner (the uncrowned king)
New blood:
Badr Hari (total prick but such a huge natural talent)
great?no. down right hilarious? shit yea. that fight is always a great pick me up. But Sapp hit Kimo in the back of the head at the end so he shouldnt have won.
Cool thanks guys I think this thread is good for alot of people just kinda curious about K-1.
What other MMA stars fought in K-1? I know Cro Cop did. You guys mentioned Kimo is that the same guy im thinking of? Early UFC days.
This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Please consider creating a new thread.
