The “It’s Showtime 2009″ kickboxing extravaganza took place yesterday (May 16) from the Amsterdam Arena in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

It featured a bevy of the world’s kickboxing stars in a stacked card from top to bottom.

Melvin Manhoef was able to unwrap a gift win over Stefan Leko. “No Mercy” was looking for the kill throughout the bout, though Leko was able to stay out of harms way, dodging most of the attacks and firing off some counterstrike combinations to frustrate Manhoef.

It looked like Leko was cruising to a decision win when early in the third round it appeared that he broke his foot, halting the bout and making Manhoef the victor.

Another disappointing ending came in the fight between William Diender and Gago Drago. Diender was taking it to Drago, landing flurry after flurry and barely giving his opponent a chance to breathe. Then the ringside physician would stop the bout to take a look at a small cut Diender had received and would not allow him to continue.

It seemed like a premature stoppage. Diender certainly seemed to think so which was clear by his storming around the ring in protest and disgust.

The bad luck would continue when Mourad Bouzidi was able to upset K-1 star Errol Zimmerman. Bouzidi won the bout on a technicality, a cut received to Zimmerman’s forehead that forced the bout to be stopped — though this stoppage was a lot more justifiable then Diender’s.

Daniel Ghita was able to chop down Thomas Hron with a barrage of nasty leg kicks that would lead to Hron’s demise. He was knocked down several times from the leg kicks which would result in three standing eight counts which would give Ghita the TKO victory.

Dutch blitzkrieg Andy Souwer was also in action. He bested Chahid Oulad El Hadj in a decision win that was an exciting showdown but with the majority of it being dictated by Souwer.

Tyrone Spong was handed a close split decision win over Attila Karacs, that could have easily gone the other way in favor of Karacs.

The main event of the evening pitted K-1 bad boy Badr Hari against three-time K-1 World Grand Prix winner Semmy Schilt for the ‘It‘s Showtime’ Heavyweight title.

It wouldn’t last long.

Hari came out guns blazing, putting the pressure on Schilt from the get go and knocking “High Tower” down momentarily just 30 seconds in with a well placed right. Schilt was able to quickly recover, but just as quickly Hari continued to dish out the punishment, putting an exclamation mark on the bout by knocking Schilt out with a beautiful right hook that landed right on the button a mere 45 seconds into the opening frame.

Badr Hari absolutely dismantelled sem Schilt. Nice job done by badr hari. he closed the distance and just throwed puch after punch. Nice job hari.
Tyrone Spong was supposed to fight Ruslan Karaev but after Karaev wasn't ready to fight , Tyrone fought a unknown fighter called Karacs.Although he got the win, Tyrone didn't look that good.
Manhoef fought leko. It was a great fight with Leko winning the exchanges. But leko got injured in the third round , so manhoef became the victor. You never know with manhoef but leko was on his way winning a decision. Leko broke his foot on 2 different places.
Zimmerman is a joke . he got stopped by bouzidi and after the fight Zimmerman called Badr hari out. haha he is a joke!!

I wouldnt have been surprised at all if Leko did win, he is a good fighter who hasnt been on it the past year. Karaev not fighting really upset me, I have been wanting him to fight Spong for a while now.
I cannot find the Cago Drago fight anywhere on the net, I should have watched it on Setanta does anyone have a link? the guy is just too exciting.
