Yoshihiro Akiyama: The Best Man In A GI
Name: Yoshihiro Akiyama
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 192 lbs
Style: Judo
Record: 9-1-0
Fighting Out Of: Osaka, Japan
Yoshihiro is a force in K1 right now. He's not a big name in the MMA world, but he's definitely a force. He has 4 TKO's and 5 Submission, with great skills on the ground both striking and in submissions. His recent streak of 8-0 since his lost to Jerome Lebanner in March of 2005 has gotten my attention, but what is really significant is his ability to finish.
Since being KO'd by Lebanner over a year ago Yoshihiro has yet to have a fight go to a decision and he has finished 6 of his 8 wins in the first round. He has finished noteworthy Russian submission artist Kestutis Smirnovas and the incredibly strong Dutch kickboxer Melvin Manhoef each in round 1. These are his last two victories.
Yoshihiro stopped Manhoef's 9 win streak with a 2 minutes armbar.
Yoshihiro alsoo stopped Smirnovas, who was coming off a tough loss to Kazushi Sakuraba. Not only did Yoshihiro beat Sakuraba's time of submission, he more than cut it in half, doing what took the Gracie Hunter almost seven minutes in a little under three.
For those of you who watch K1, keep watching this guy, because he will be a force.
