The problem with Marijuana is it's a gateway drug for impressionable, irresponsible teens and young adults.
Gateway, lol. A gateway drug is a drug that leads to other drug use.

Alcohol and tobacco are the number one gateway drugs because they are socially acceptable and reach more ppl.

Marijuana does cause the munchies but I've never found myself with a uncontrollable urge to do heroin or something else because I'm high.

Needless to say the drug itself is NOT a gateway.

If weed was legal you wouldn't need to go get it from people you wouldn't usually be around who often don't sell just weed. If there is a "gateway to harder drugs" it's the laws and dealers not marijuana that's responsible.

They start with marijuana, like the highs, then suddenly everyone wants to do shrooms, then ecstasy and acid, then God knows what else....then it starts into cocaine/dope territory.

That seemed to be the normal hierarchy when I was in HS...which as many of you know, wasn't that long ago.

People just don't go out and take hard drugs, their is a big intimidation factor when it comes to that....marijuana eases a lot of people's minds about drug use and contributes to people starting heavier drugs a lot more than people want to think.
Actually, shrooms are pretty much like marijuana (when it comes to death/health problems and such), except the difference in trips.
I also don't believe that marijuana causes people to do harder drugs, rather the people around them. I know plenty of people who have tried drugs just because their friends do them. Another good example is when, say a teen, who does marijuana, encounters with a dealer who encourages him to do something harder. "Hey, try some ecstasy, it's better then weed" or something along those lines. Which actually would be avoided with the legality of marijuana, because weed would only be available in coffee shops/dispanseries.

Shrooms give you food poisoning along with other detrimental side effects, pot doesn't. They are not even remotely the same.

Yeah Shrooms and pot are not even close. I have done both and I have seen the good and the very very bad side of Shrooms.

Like Liza said, if teens want to try hard drugs, they'll try them regardless. Just like people can say no to harder drugs regardless of marijuana use. I suppose marijuana does create curiosity, but still...
What people CAN do doesn't reflect what actually happens....and there's scientific evidence to back this...

Why is it that even if you agree with someone or think they have valid points, that when they say there is "scientific evidence" it immediately sounds like bullshit?

The very idea of a "gateway drug" isn't one that can be studied scientifically. So no, there isn't.

It's not an abstract concept. Not sure what you are making up, but it certainly can be studied scientifically.

Lol no it can't. How could you possibly implement all the necessary controls to even begin such a study?
