Don Imus, ghetto superstar?

Is Don Imus even the central problem of his own story?

of course not, but with all this hullabaloo over his firing it sure seems that way. I'm not one to side talk so i'm going to just say it--and especially since i've seen intelligent black folk say the same thing, i'm in no danger of sounding racist.

the current state of black culture/society is the way it is because of the self perpetuation of black people onto themselves. People like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are basically demagogues; instigators. they go around and promote the oppression of the black man by white America, but who are the ones shooting each other in undeniable numbers? who are the vast majority of deadbeat dads, and who are the ones who portray a negative and degrading attitude onto all women, but especially their own?

Black people. I'm not being racist here, just realistic. Sure racism from whites onto blacks still exists, but so does hate for jews, italians, and whomever else a minority group can think up some reason to hate. This whole "nappy headed hoes" thing with Imus stems from a broader acceptance by black people to accept that sort of speak from their own, but not from anyone else. it creates a sort of "attitude" about race and society that promotes segregation and stereotype. Everyone's pretty well versed in the whole, "how come they can say it but we can't" phenomenon, and that's just another symptom of, supposed, "black leaders" who do nothing but overdo cases of black thugs being shot by white cops, while never standing up for black cops who get shot by black thugs. there's a double standard that widens the gap black and white folks have never even come close to bridging. Unless black culture does something to exorcize itself of its own self hatred and self loathing, race in this country will remain at the forefront of what's wrong with our society!

Great post I agree 110%

My thoughts on this whole ordeal are:

1.) Who the **** is Imus? Meaning I could give 2 shits less if he is fired or not, and so could probably 98% of the population. He is a nobody, he has no ratings, which I think played a factor in their decision to fire him.

2.) Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are 2 of the biggest scumbag criminals on earth. Most civilized and educated black people hate these 2 guys and are aware of the damage they are insuing on the black community. The only reason these 2 aren't labeled as racist pigs are because they are liberals and we all know who controls the mass majority of the media...

3.) This situation just further proves you are right and that this double standard the black community perpetuates is totally retarded and more people are waking up to it everyday. I'm pretty sure most people agree with what you're saying, regardless of race. But the thing is we will never see this kind of thing discussed maturely on TV because the media is so strict about racist topics and gay rights. Tim Hardaway expresses his personal opinion on gays and look what they did to him. They crucified the poor guy for answering a question honestly. It's all a huge double standard.

I agree with your statements but what Imus said was 100% wrong and 100% his fault. Of the "nappy headed hoes" he referred to were a class validvictorian, a future lawyer, and a very talented musician. His statements were extremly ignorant.

no, i agree with that totally. you're responsible for what you do and say. but, the main problem with race in america today--and by race, we all know we're still talking about blacks/whites--is radiating from within the black community. embracing "gangsta" culture was basically a conscious decision to limit their entire futures. Obviously there are educated black folk, just as there are ignorant white folk, but you cannot deny the overall culture one is a part of. Those educated people who speak out against this internal travesty should be honored, but fools like Sharpton and Jackson get the center stage and are seen as the figureheads of black society. That's a conscious decision--along with heavy media endorcement--to perpetuate their own limitations!

Yes Don Imus is a moron. I agree that he should be fired. Someone had a comment in our local paper that I thought was interesting, which was, why wasn't Jesse Jackson penalized in any TANGIBLE way for his "Hymietown" comment years ago??

Instigators is a polite word for what Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are, either way. I think of them as rabble-rousers who are more interested in promoting themselves than helping their community.

a black guy on TV yesterday called the two of them terrorists who go around the country starting fires, then walk away to watch the flames!

now that's a pretty accurate description of them, coming from a black person makes it especially astute since he didn't have to mince words!!!

but again, that's my point. a white guy, no matter who, could never call al sharpton a domestic terrorist. only a black person can get away with that and not have "racism" thrown in their face.

Instigators, criminals, scumbags, hypocrites, racists, assholes, and the mother of them all....NI****S. (yes I said it, they deserve it, f*ck them both)

"Reverend" Al Sharpton and "Reverend" Jesse Jackson should both be wearing orange jumpsuits right now getting f*cked in the ass every day in prison. Especially Al Sharpton. He basically murdered 11 people in Harlem, but no one gives a shit. F*ck them both, if there's a hell, both of them will be rooming with the likes of Hitler and Stalin. They are truly the scum of the earth.

Why is it they never b*tch about rap songs or MTV music videos or tv shows?

Why does the media keep giving them so much attention? Why do they just completely ignore all of the horrible shit they have caused?

Jesse Jackson f*cking CRUCIFIED those guys from Duke last year when their was no evidence and the media f*cking gave him the mic and let him spout on and on about how "these boys will pay for what they've done", and "this is clearly a racist and sexist hate crime" blah blah blah. Turns out they're innocent and the dumb sIut was just making the whole thing up. Way to go jackass. You ruined these guys reputation and the University's reputation even worse by opening your big mouth before any solid evidence came about and the whole country knew it was a bullshit story to begin with.

He should if he already hasn't....

Al Sharpton denied even being in Harlem the day Freddy's Fashion got burned down killing 7 people and another guy shooting 4 people, until the video tape showed him there. Then he just denied doing anything wrong. But he basically was responsible for all of it. Still no apology from him to the families of the murdered victims.

"It's a completely different scenario. [Rappers] are not talking about no collegiate basketball girls who have made it to the next level in education and sports. We're talking about hos that's in the 'hood that ain't doing shit, that's trying to get a nigga for his money. These are two separate things. First of all, we ain't no old-ass white men that sit up on MSNBC going hard on black girls. We are rappers that have these songs coming from our minds and our souls that are relevant to what we feel. I will not let them mutha****as say we in the same league as him."

Snoop Dog's respons to the Imus incident... does this prove my point???
