The VT shooter was Muslim

Sources: Virginia Tech gunman left note | Chicago Tribune

Cho Seung-hui - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Quote:
According to reports, Cho left a "disturbing note" criticizing "rich kids", "debauchery", and "deceitful charlatans" before killing two people in a dormitory room on April 16, 2007.[8] Two hours later, he then crossed the campus to continue his rampage in a classroom building.[4] Police identified Cho by matching fingerprints on the guns used in the shootings with immigration materials.[4] The words "Ismail Ax" were found inscribed on his arm in red ink.[8]

Ismail (name) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Thumbs down

And this suddenly turns it into a totally anti–Islamic thing now, as opposed to one against a country with relatively easy access to guns and a triggerhappy mindset that even kids ascribe to (eg Columbine shootings)? I wondered how long before they found a scapegoat instead of tackling the very real issues at hand.

agreed. now the conservatives and NRA will focus on the fact that it was a "terrorist act" rather than focus on the issue on how we NEED stricter gun laws in this country

Yay, Que up the liberal anti-gun crowds.

I;m not saying all guns should be outlawed in the U.S. But you can't honestly say that our homes and streets are safer with hand guns on the streets.

I’ll let an American poster from another board’s words do the talking here:
Quote:
Unfortunately that is the backwards logic far too many people over here adhere to.

The framers of the US constitution recognized the detrimental effect of allowing idiots to vote and therefore declared their country a Federal Republic rather than a true Democracy to somewhat protect themselves from the “idiot vote.”

Ironically these same framers understood their constitution was only good for the time in which it was written and so made allowances for it to be amended as times and needs change…hence the second amendment and the right to bear arms. And yet the gun people refuse to acknowledge that the need and time that caused the 2nd amendment to be written has long passed (a British uprising with intent to take back the country) and hang onto this privilege because it is their “constitutional right.”

I am undecided whether this gun argument is truly about guns as it is about idiots standing up for the constitution. However, the general rule of thumb…those who speak the loudest about their constitutional right are the people who understand the least about the rights that paper affords them.

It is difficult to understand how and why the gun culture is so pervasive, but a look at any political campaign will show you just how bad the situation is. Have you heard of the Romney fella who is running for the Republican presidential nomination. He has a history of non–support for the NRA, but now he’s running a campaign he has recently joined and made up stories about his hunting background.

As Bill Maher said, an American can not be made president unless he has a love guns and killing little fluffy things. This is even more the case for a Republican.

So your telling me that people owning legal guns is the problem. No, elligal guns are the problem. I shoot guns, my step dad shoots guns, his freind has a carrying permat. I know for a fact if you train yourself with guns you learn to respect them. How about this, if one of the student had a concealed fire arm permit he could have killed the guy before so many people got hurt.

Dude, guns will NEVER go away. If you outlaw them, only the criminals will have them. Don't think they will be able to get them? They will get them just like they get bricks of heroin and cocaine form the Mexican boarder.

Guns are not the issue here, society rotting from the inside out are the issue IMO.
