Star Trek truly does inspire discovery!

BBC NEWS | Science/Nature | Space shield to block radiation

Laptops
Sliding sensor doors
Cell phones
hypospray (yes, they have and are using them now)

technologies proposed in star trek before anyone ever imagined them.

Science fiction to science. won't be long before we are motoring around in hovercars the Jetsons style. I think we will always have leaps from science fiction to not so fiction just because fans will go a long way to duplicate something that they see in their favorite show or movie. alot of brilliant minds out there that will look towards these venues for insperation.

i'd be much more interested in jet packs

or a robot that would do all my cooking for me

let's just hope that star trek does not ultimately inspire men everywhere to have facial hair like jonathan frakes eeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!

my husband is a big star trek fan and I watch with him but don't get into it quite as much. (except for the awesome old school tv episodes) so when we sat down to watch first contact several years ago, i noticed that jonathan frakes directed it, or helped to write the screenplay or something. Then his character was suddenly a pimp in the tub with some hot woman, I forget who. that was when I started going ehhhhewwwwwwww!!!!!!
