Thanks for the links. I went through all of them. Chicago sun and Sun Journal I found to be a little biased in their description of the events but the Jena Times timeline made things a little more clear.

After reading all of it, I feel this whole outcry is uncalled for. Each person who commited a crime, should be punised according to the crime they commited. The guys who put up the nooses got off easy. There isnt much detail the "fight" or "beating" that took place at the barn, nor is there any detail given on what happened to the person who was charged, so Im not sure if he was properly punished, but from the readings, it seems like it was not. Right there, those two incidences are the real injustice. Those 2 incidences should have been handled in the proper way.

In my opinion however, these 6 kids (jena times says they were 7?) should be punished. I think having all these celebrities join this cause is nonsense. They really chose the wrong incident to protest about. Thats what I think. Unless the "fight" at the barn/private party was a multiple man on one 'beating', this 6on1 event is by far, by far, the worst crime commited during this time line. So I think the punishment should be worse.

Maybe Im missing something still though so I apologize if I disagree with you. So, Panthony if you could tell me your point of view maybe Ill understand it better.

Again, to me it seems like all these protestors/demonstrators/celebrities are sending a message saying:

"You did nothing about the white crimes, so do nothing about the black crimes neither"

Let me know what you think Panthony. Im curious because you've been following for longer than me. Thanks

The legal bungling with regard to the battery charges concerns me much less than the comment "kids play pranks" in response to the nooses hanging from the tree. That is a perfect example of the worst kind of administrative stupidity, the kind that if unchecked will enable further violence.

No, any kind of battery is one million times more serious than some kid spray painting nigger on a locker or hanging nooses in a tree. Kids DO do that kind of shit it should not result in attempted murder.

True, but lets not forget that they were trespassing and IMO looking for a fight.

It's difficult to explain the things that were written several months ago to how they're written about today to someone that just recently became aware of the situation. Both sides have become very defensive and set in their position.
The Jena Times have been criticize for months for picking sides and changing focus.

Apparently Yahoo news said that dozens of mistakes were made when this was reported (Is anyone actually surprised the news made dozens of mistakes?). Here are a few:

- The story of the black kid that sat underneath the white kid's tree is "pretty much" disputed. According to school faculty, blacks and whites both sat under the tree.

- Mychal Bell, the person tried for attempted murder was reported to be an honor student and no criminal record. It turns out he was not an honor student and he was actually on probation for 2 counts of battery and another count of criminal damage to property.

- There were 2 nooses not 3. 3 Nooses is considered "code" for the KKK. Only 2 nooses were hung and according to a black teacher, they were removed because people stuck their heads through them and swung on them.

- Donald Washington, an attorney for the U.S. Justice Department contradicts the original news report by saying there is no connection between the nooses and the attack.

- The three youths accused of hanging the nooses were not suspended for just three days — they were isolated at an alternative school for about a month, and then given an in-school suspension for two weeks.

- The six-member jury that convicted Bell was, indeed, all white. However, only one in 10 people in LaSalle Parish is African American, and though black residents were selected randomly by computer and summoned for jury selection, none showed up.
