CANZUK: Trade union between Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK

Leading off the BREXIT thread and I'd like to inform you all of the CANZUK International movement, just incase you were not aware.

You can read more here: http://www.canzukinternational.com/
If you're in favour of this movement you can sign the petition here: CANZUK Petition (Change.org)

In essence this is a would-be political union akin to the EU whereby the four countries mentioned enter into an agreement about freedom of trade, movement of citizens and any other such benefits the countries could wish to share with one another.

If you are from one of the four countries how would you feel about such a political union? Would you have any concerns?

I thought about that, but in contrast to CA(N)ada New Zealand and United Kingdom (whicht often is refered to as UK) it's not as obvious.

But a more serious question, do you think you could just that easily exchange the countries you are trading with¿ I mean the needs and offers probably are substantially different. You would have to change big parts of the economy. And do you think the imported potatoes* shipped around from New Zealand (with rather high working costs) on the other side of the planet will be as cheap as from stone's throw away Poland (with rather low working costs)¿

* just as a visual example, I don't know if and how many potatoes the UK imports from Poland

It's not that it's easy, but it is necessary to strengthen our position after Brexit and man what a great bunch of countries to go into partnership with, right?

Canada, UK, NZ and Aus all have different but similar economies, we may end up trading mostly on products and services rather than perishable goods, who knows? We still plan on trading with the EU, as long as they give us a good deal. It doesn't have to be horrible.

Of course it's reasonable for you to find new partners (even though I don't think the trading relations with EU will change that much, you will just pay for the access to the market like Switzerland or Norway), but aren't those three partners for you anyways through the Commonwealth¿ And of course as Spite already mentioned, their trade volume is MUCH smaller than that of the EU.

We may not have to pay for access to the market like Norway, afterall the USA/Japan etc do not pay for access so why should the UK? We can negotiate a brand new deal, not a 'soft' Brexit or something. This is what I'd like to do.

About current trade rates with the CANZUK countries; sure we trade with them less right now because we are in a free market with the EU; it is in our interests to trade with the EU whilst we are in it, once we are out we will naturally have to look for new partners, I believe before the EEC in 1973 we traded alot more with the CANZUK countries, you could say we are reverting to older traditions.
