DOA: Dead Or Alive (The Hollywood Movie)?
Here's something else that you might want to know about me... "The Brawler". I love fighting games... BEAT 'EM UP GAMES! From WWE Games (although the actual product itself is "FAKE") to the UFC Games (which are awesome)! I loved Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Fatal Fury, Tekken, The Soul Calibur Series AND... I LOVED THE DEAD OR ALIVE SERIES! I remembered how annoyed I was with The Street Fighter Movie (Jean-Claude Van Damme)... and I remember how crappy The Mortal Kombat movies were. So far the greatest adaptation from Game to Movie was Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie. I LOVED IT... IT DID DARN NEAR EVERYTHING RIGHT! If any fighting game should be adapted to a movie... it should be an animated movie from The Japanese Menga Studios. I hope like hell they do it with DOA sooner or later... BECAUSE THIS PIECE OF HOLLYWOOD CRAP DROVE ME THE WRONG WAY!!! For starters... the plot is bad. Also... the focus tends to be on the girls and only the girls... like those crappy Charlie's Angels movies. In the DOA Games... YES... THE CHICKS WERE HOT... but they had story... and depth. They get some American Actors and one Australian (Holly Valance) to play characters that darn near look and act completely different from what they were the video game series. Other major characters from the franchise either play small roles of make "CAMEOS" that go unnoticed. The movie's main focus is on the following:
... and they're all played by Americans and one Australian. They even use American accents and The Australian used a poor excuse for a British Accent. Their roles in this movie make them ditzier and dumber than they wre in the games. YES... TINA WAS MUCH MORE ROUNDED IN THE GAMES than Jaimie Pressly's interpretation in the movie. Other minor characters include...
They get into fights and play roles... and get their butts kicked by the girls... I'M NOT SEXIST BUT... well... I'll stop there...
Leon and Bayman play minor roles and apparently Lei Fang and Gen Fu make cameos. From the trailers I knew straight away this was gonna be crap. The beauty about the game was the fact that every single character had their story... and the only way for a movie to allow every single character their time to shine would probably be by way of making an animated movie. I HATED THIS FILM... I HATED WHAT HOLLYWOOD DID THIS THE DOA FRANCHISE!
Keep in mind that the director of this movie also gave us HOUSE OF THE DEAD... one of the worst games to movies adaptations ever made... and mind you... that GAME (which was great) SHOULD NEVER EVER HAVE BEEN MADE INTO A MOVIE... unless it was done properly and actually followed the game's actual plot!
My 2 biggest beefs with the movie are the following:
THEY TURNED LEON INTO A BLEACHED BLONDE HAIRED (Tito?) PRETTY BOY!!!
Leon was my favorite character in The DOA series. He was a tough guy who hated pretty boys and arrogance. He just did his job. He was a no holds barred in your face no-nonsense Russian Martial Artist. I love RUSSIAN MARTIAL ARTS... and yet in this movie... he is a 'Tito-Lookalike' PRETTY BOY!
Finally... there's the gripe I have with all movies. Sure... movies like this are supposed to suspend disbelief... but they shouldn't go too far.
Here's a question that I would love nothing more than for all of you to ponder:
Can a really good martial artist take on a large group of other fighters?
I was a Bruce Lee fan... because he didn't use WIRES... was a great choreographer... but even I believed that he couldn't take on 10 guys at once. I reckon the most a really strong guy or a really good fighter/martial artists can take on at once is... I don't know! What do you think? I just hate how ONE PERSON takes down so many people on his or her own... it's NOT REAL! If I was with all of the "ENEMIES" in a real life situation trying to take down a martial artist or a fighter... we'd just all attack and grab him or her at once and take him or her down... EASY... SIMPLE... what do you think of that? Well... that's all from me! Thanks for reading... please give me your insight and an answer to that question in BOLD and to all of the HARDCORE DOA GAMES FANS... DO NOT SEE THIS MOVIE... you'll be 'Scarred!'
