WL2FU's Band Of The Week: CKY (Camp Kill Yourself)

I'm doing a thread on my band of the week because I am really obsessed with these guys, and I wanna know what everyone thinks of them.

I've liked them ever since 8th grade, like 7 years ago. I can't get sick of their songs, it's like impossible. I'm trying to figure out if it is just me.

These guys aren't mainstream, so I don't really get to talk about them with a lot of people. I think they have the best riffs in rock music right now. I think they are one of the most original bands out there and I think it's cool as hell that they refuse to go mainstream.

All the songs in my sig are freakin ridiculous. Maybe it's just me. I've seen them in concert and it's unreal. They sound so good live. One of the best live bands I've ever personally seen. I just don't understand where they come up with so many great riffs. I honestly think I hum along to the riffs more than I sing along to the words. Something else to think about, the lead singer is also the lead guitarist.

Listen to #7 first if you wanna get hooked.

Discuss...PLEASE.

Oh and try to forget about the fact that they are associated with Bam Margera and company. I personally think Bam is alright, he's gone downhill lately though, I grew up watching the guy before Jackass was even thought of. But this band is the real deal, they don't **** around when it comes to their music. Basically, Bam made them popular by being a huge fan, he's not actually part of the band. His brother is the drummer though. `__`

Man I absolutly love CKY. They made some serious music, and I perticularly liked them during the CKY(Bam) days when they used to be in the videos.

Man I miss the CKY tapes.

So do I

I'm seriously thinking about going out this weekend and buying all 4 of the DVD's. I have all 4 on tape still but A) I haven't had a working VCR in years and B) they're a little ate up.

CKY was a HUGE part of my life...I was just thinking about this at work. They basically made me who I am today. If CKY never existed, I would be a totally different person right now. It's crazy. I can't get sick of their songs either, I can (and do) listen to them all day, everyday. I smell some new ink coming possibly...

"Disengage The Simulator" is the most relaxing song I know...I love to get happy and sit here and listen to that song, on repeat...

I remember hearing that riff in song 7 on the Jackass DVD box set.

I dont think they're a overtly great band though, nothing too spectacular has caught my attention.

I was hoping for your input -1....I know his voice in some songs could use a little work, it takes some getting used to. How many bands do you know out there that can have that many ridiculously good riffs? They've put out 3 CDs and each one was a different style, but the riffs stayed equally as awesome. They produce all their own shit, the label doesn't touch anything they write or record. They're different I know, I can understand why people wouldn't dig them as much as me. I like their originality though...I don't think it's right to listen to them and compare them to mainstream bands and say well they don't sound like the big famous bands so they obviously suck. No other band out there sounds like them, and they rock.

Sorry, I'm not exactly arguing with you. You're entitled to your opinion and I appreciate the input.

I would rep you but I have to spread the love apparently.

Really dude, CKY made me what I am today, theyre truly the dudes who paved the way for Jackass, and Im proud to say I was one of their biggest and earliest followers.

I used to have all 4 tapes on my pc but no more. I recently saw them on sale over here and it wouldnt be a bad idea to get them again.

Quite bitter beings really revolutionized that scence.

Hey dude btw, do you listen to The Misfits, Youth Brigade, Pennywise, or Turbonegro?

The band is good, the stunts are better. Buy the trilogy on DVD man, the bonus shit is AMAZING!

These guys had some catchy tunes, but I dug there riffs more then there singer. I always thought he was the thing holding them back. Jesse is a solid drummer though.

Best thing ever with the singer was when he went to that dudes grave and brought a bottle with him and just got completly obliterated on the dudes grave. Good times.

and yes, these are the dudes that made me the person I am today. I was turned on to skateboarding completly when I saw my 1st show forever ago. To bad half the cast really never got to famous (really Bam & Dunn are the only 'big' ones). Dicos' raps will forever be apart of my life!

Yea the Chinese freestyle and Beastman vs Skeletor are both hilarious and I have all the words memorized (like most fans do ) Oops I forgot about Mustard Man too.

I think it was actually the guitarist who got drunk on the grave. If I remember right. It was Chad Ginsberg (guitarist) and he was getting wasted on GG Allin's grave. (Part of me remembers him pissing on the grave as well? Is that right? I know Allin had a thing for pissing onstage) GG Allin I guess was Chad's biggest inspiration. They even look similar. When I saw them in concert he had GG Allin written on his guitar.

But yea, Deron's voice is sometimes off. It's different. He has a good voice though, you just gotta listen to certain songs. "Familiar Realm" and "Disengage The Simulator" show off his voice pretty well. Theor songs would sound better with a better voice...but I'm used to it and I like his voice now. I remember there was a time when I didn't like it at all though. I guess after you listen to the same 11 songs constantly for 8 years you kinda get used to it.

My favorite CKY crew member was always Raab Himself. That dude was crazy with his fecal matter

Oh and plazzman, I used to listen to Misfits and Pennywise but I haven't in a really long time. I'm not much into punk anymore, but they are good bands. I saw Pennywise in concert also, at warped tour...can't remember which year though, I've been to a few.

I like to try and hear other peoples favorite bands. What I do sometimes is have the one guy make a cd of his favorite tracks and hand it to me, I would do the same. Give it a spin and judge it from a continuous point of view.

Also it helps to have the whole album with the art so you get the idea of where they wanted to take their sound on that record and it gives you a visual that goes along with the music.

Some of my favorite records have alot to do with the album art.

I'll see if I can get their albums from a download or something then I'll give you a review of what I think afterwards, it'll be great.

Man, I love talking about music, I could type shit here for hours and not get bored.
