Sad sad day....(soccer)

Oh-mah-god. What the hell. if anyone watched Euro's today knows what Im talking about. I know we have plenty of Brits on this site so I want to know how you guys feel.

What was it, did you start slacking, was it Stevey Mac, Beckhams limbo, Gerrard/Lampard, lack of forwards, or just side swiped?

This is a big big day in soccer, the country that started football is excluded from Europs most prestigious event. Now the cup wont be the same.

Im really sorry guys, hopefully we can do it in Cape Town.

Tell me how you feel guys

This was a sad, sad game. Not sad as in the upset way, but sad as in the pathetic sense. All England had to do was draw to qualify. What do they do? Concede two goals in the first fifteen minutes against a team that had already qualified. Yes, Croatia were playing like they really wanted to win but there wasn't that fire and snap there like it would have been if they needed a result. You can bet your ass if the situation the teams were in would have been reversed Mclaren would have been messing around with formations, trying out new players and the team would have had absolutely zero motivation to win and Croatia would have come out determined going for the win (even more than today).

England went out there half assed. Only Crouch, Cole and Gerard (as usual) showed any class and determination. It took a gift penalty to get England back in the match and a "Beckham Special" to get back to a draw. Then what happens? They sit back and didn't continue to press the action when they were on top. Result? They concede a goal, it was a class strike though.

The fact of the matter is, this game wasn't the reason England didn't qualify. Drawing against Macedonia and Israel is the reason. If they want to compete on a world level they can't drop results to these level teams. They did and as such they don't deserve to be through to the finals.

Obviously didn't help that Hargreaves, Rooney and Terry are out of action, but that's par for the course in football and no excuse.

[EDIT] - Lampard, needs to be off the team. I've been saying this since early 2006. The slow, unmotivated, fat knacker needs to go. Scholes would be the most logical replacement but sadly he's retired from international footie. God damn Scholes has more imagination, skill and determination in his ginger hair than Lampard has in his entire body.

And Bridge was a fkin joke. Jesus wept. In fact Jesus would have probably played better in his Sandals than Bridge did tonight.

Oh man, I feel you and Im not even British. I dont think Stevey Mac has the England fire in him. Sven somehow had it, Robson obviously had it. But for Mac, it just feels out of place, hes trying to many things, and many of them arent working out for him. He cant quite find the perfect mix in the center. Everyone knows Gerrard and Lampard dont play well together.

Hes always giving Beckham the shaft and yet the dude is one of few who actually make the match what it is.

Lord I wish Scholes came out of retirement, I would go ballistic, the man is a wizard in the center and would suit Gerrard pretty well.

Im also sorry that Michael Owen is the new David Terrell. Such a gifted player and yet hes hurt every monday. And Crouch, the guy no one really cares for is putting in the work up front. Who else are they going to pair him up with. Andy Johnson? Bent? Defoe?

I think Englands rotation in terms of squad depth is out of whack for now, its in need of some tinkering, and its a shame the old boys are getting past their prime.

I miss Ashley, Scholes and Owen.

What are you talking about. Beckhams still putting in great work on the lines. He still has some of the crispest passes and crosses.

Rooney seems to have lost his fire also. England has some of the best midfielders, individually, but getting them to work well along side eachother is another story.

Bent nearly equalised actually for 3-3 right after he came on. Their keeper was beat but it just drifted over the bar. Crouch is awesome, I can't fault Robo-Crouch. He works hard (all match), gets back to defend, puts tackles in, wins crosses and oh yeah scores. Like 14 goals in 20 games or something, that's crazy. Ashley Cole is only out from an injury I think (like Rooney, Hargreaves and Terry). As soon as he's back Bridge is gonna be given the boot, if not already.

Doesn't really matter though at the moment lol.

You can have the best indivdaul players in the world and still suck if you cannot work as team which seems to be england's downfall this year. I don't watch much soccer but my boss who is from england does so I will hear about this I am sure.

I remember when Bridge was pretty promising at first. But I guess that all you can do when your best guys are shelved.

Ah well, hopefuly this is a big kick in the butt for England and they really pick it up in the future.
