Angry This Is Ridiculous.....

I'm working a Part Time position right now at a Vitamin Shoppe that's almost 30 miles away from my house. I would've picked something closer but that's the job I wanted because I know a good deal about Nutrition and the manager there is a good friend of mine so I was an instant candidate. I get paid $10 per hour which isn't too bad

As all of you probably know Gas Prices are still going up. Around where I live within the past month gas has gone up almost 50 cents. It's now around 4.08/gallon. It's ******* ridiculous.

When over half of my paycheck is spent on Gas to fill up my Car. And almost all of that gas is used to get back and forth to ******* work!

Meaning on average I make around $150 per week. At least $80 of that is spent on Gas within that one week period. Driving to the Gym to Lift, Driving to MMA Classes, and Driving to Work. I'm spending so much money on gas I can barely make my car payments let alone treat myself to something I want like for example a Movie or clothes or a Video Game.

After all the necessities like paying to own my car and paying for gas to use it I usually have around $30 at the end of all that to spend on myself. Not to mention I have to cancel my cell phone because my bills are over lapping because I can't pay them on time.

Now my dad wants me to pay for my YMCA Membership because I'm the only one who uses it, that's another $50 per month out of my pocket.

I'm probably going to have to go Full Time and possibly get another job and then I won't have time to do anything I want.

I envy people who are spoon fed everything. Kids that don't have to pay for gas or a car or pretty much anything that they want. Billion Dollar Oil Tycoons are sitting cozy in their mansions driving high end automobiles and I'm barely breaking even here.

Not to mention this Hot, Humid 100 degree weather is driving me ******* insane and I'm so ******* tired I can't even get a good lift in at the gym. I'm losing my appetite and all the weight worked so hard to put on.

Life Sucks right now, and it sucks hard

I'm sorry to hear all that buddy. The gas thing has everyone talking from where I'm from. My car was in the shop for a couple of weeks and I had to drive my sister's jeep(great ride but...) and the gas mileage is at best is 13-16 mpg. I had to spend double the gas money I was used to and the price just keeps going up.

The only thing I can think to try and help you save money is talk to the YMCA- since it's only you on the account they can restructure the contract and based on the money you make they will lower the cost per month, maybe by $10-20 per month. Not a goldrush but it will help a little bit.

Hey man, at least you have a vehicle. Try walking everywhere for 9 months, during winter with only a sweater.

But the gas is seriously getting out of hand. Whomever these crooks in power are fooling, I'd sure like to meet cause its a joke.

If you have to work more hours or get another job then I say, welcome to the real friend, It doesn't get any easier than this. You should be thankful you have a family to help you when you need it also.

I think the most obvious thing you can do is get a different job.

Getting paid $10 an hour to drive that far doesn't make any sense.

But what kind of Job could I get right now that pays more than $10/hour? I only have a high school education?

I mean I'm very thankful for what I got. My parents give me shelter and food and I'm very grateful for that, everything else is my burden.

But honestly I don't know what I'm going to do.

I don't even know if I know what I want to do with my life. I'll be 20 in july and I still don't have a career choice.....

I'm sure there are plenty of jobs you can get at $10 an hour that's close to you. Even if it's $10 an hour, it might be better for you to get a job that pays a little less but is close to you.

If you can get a job that pays less than $10 but lets you walk to work, that would be a lot better too.

Go work overnight in a grocery store. They always need workers and will pay good (but not great) to get them. There is no education involved obviously and it's pretty slack when you need it to be.

How do I know your thinking? Cause its what I do.

Get a moped or an electric scooter. Save tonnes of money on gas! They are badass too!

I would recommoned a bicycle but it seems too hot there. Also you can probably join another gym for a lot cheaper than the Y.

So your out of school and you aren't working full time and not paying rent at home? You don't have it to bad.

Last year I had a full schedule of university classes (I had to pay the 4500$ for the classes) plus I needed to work 30 hours a week to actually have some money. My parents let me live at home for free, but now that it's summer I'm working full time and have chosen to walk to work to save me some coin. The savings is starting to grow like mad .

Move to full time. You still have pleanty of time to do anything, I have a girlfriend, go to the gym and hang out with friends very often.

It's good to know some people can relate. Around where I live people are either dead broke or loaded. My family is kind of in between.

Thanks for the advice
