I just saw it on MSN.com, all I saw was "George Carlin dead at 71" and I just went completely numb.
I'll be honest with you, I have never ever shed a tear for any celebrity, ever. But when I saw this I couldn't help but too. George Carlin is the greatest stand-up comedian in the history of stand-up, BAR NONE. I know it's common to say after a celebrity dies but these words couldn't be further from the truth. Although he did make us laugh histarically and to tears, he really wasn't a comedian, but a philosopher.
People always compared him to Bill Hicks, only there's one thing that seperates them both, Carlin covered EVERYTHING. While I love Bill Hicks as well and he as well as a philosopher, he was a one trick pony, Carlin's material was just uncomparable.
I honestly can't believe this. I knew the day would come soon, to quote George is surely was an "old ****", I guess I never prepared for it. ****, this sucks, it just sucks.
In all honesty George Carlin impacted my ways of thinking very much so. Whether it was golf, religion, politics, people who wear too much cologne, guys that wear their baseball caps backwards, and the list could go on forever. To me it wasn't material, but just straight up life.
Rest in peace George.
