Marijuana Prohibition

Ron White (Blue Collar Comedy Tour) got busted recently and I wanted to get some of your thoughts on whether you believe marijuana should be legalized in the U.S.?

I do for the simple reason that it is an alternative to alcohol; a legal recreational drug that is infinitely more dangerous.

I certainly don't believe that marijuana is a gateway drug. When I was a teen I did a lot of bad stuff... But rarely when I was high on pot. I was too paranoid to try cocaine, or heroin, or pills...

However, I did all that stuff when I got drunk. lol! Because alcohol makes me not give a damn what the consequences of drug usage might be.

Needless to say, I haven't had an alcoholic drink since '05.

I'm not really for it... but if I could outlaw alcohol and legalize pot in its place, I'd do it in a second.

And you just ruined a lot of lives and families too. I mean there are tons of people employed in the business of alcohol. Not to mention all the restaurant workers would make significantly less.

The ruin would not be as bad as the ruin inflicted upon other families, employees, and employers *by* alcohol.

Besides, those people would just have to get in the marijuana business.

Yeah but that is a choice everyone of them has made for themselves to some extent or another. The choice to get into the business of alcohol is a little different because you are not ruining your life or your family's if you "work" too much. Having that forcefully taken away from you would be pretty unfair.

If you want to legalize marijuana that is fine with me, I got nothing against free will. But why stop there, just legalize it all. More money for the money hungry politicians anyway. Especially since the war on drugs would be over and so would the police time dedicated to fighting it.

I actually agree that it should all be legalized. Although I admit that I agree with you reluctantly.

It would destroy a large percentage of criminal organizations and gangs. The only bad side is I think we could have a surge in junkies along with tax payer's money going into state run rehab programs.

If you make it ALL legal, whose to stop little kids from using it?

You can set age restrictions, but the people who buy it legally will have it sitting in their house and anyone can have a hand at it.

Also, just like with Cigs and Alcohol, you would have older people buying these hardcore drugs for younger people if we made it ALL legal.

"When I hear athletes call themselves warriors, it does bother me a little bit. When I think of a warrior, I think of the Marines I've led in combat, those Marines that sacrificed so much...no showers, little food, no contact with their family, all for their love for their brother Marine and for their love for their country. That's a warrior, willing to lay his life on the line. I've had Marines that have laid their lives on the line for the man next to him, and for their family and country. That's a warrior. The guy who goes into some athletic contest who has no war experience, in my eyes, really has no right to call himself that. That's a coveted thing to call someone, and that's what I call my Marines. Those are warriors." - Brian Stann

That is where private businesses would take over and profit from it. If people couldn't pay those bills they just wouldn't be helped. I guarantee they wouldn't be entitled to free help though. I don't know how much free help alcoholics get, but I imagine it isn't much.

Milkkidd: Do you really think it is out of reach for children right now. I was trippin at age 11 (on acid, MDMA, or paote), smoked weed by 12, alcohol was the hardest thing to get for me. I used everything. Never abused any of it though. Just curious about it all. I don't really have an addictive personality at all.

Can you imagine if they made guns legal? I mean, you can set age restrictions, but the people who buy them legally will have them sitting in their house and anyone can have a hand at them.

Also, just like with cigs and alcohol, you would have older people buying these guns and ammo for younger people if we made them legal.

And just to clarify, marijuana isn't even a drug, much less a hardcore one. Not sure if you were including it in that group or not.
