Why anyone would say they weren't as smart is far beyond me. Everything we know is based on their discoveries. Heck, one guy figured out the circumfrence of the earth by noticing a difference in length of shadows at different cities at the same "time". That's pretty freaking smart!
Just imagine what we lost in the Library of Alexandria...
Yeah, I know. But some people sometimes seem to think "They were more stupid back then because they believed this and that", but really what these anciant civilizations did was amazing considering what technology level they were at!
And don't talk about the Library in Alexandria, that's just downright sad!
I just personally find Egyptians more interesting....but they believed a guy would put the sun inn his canoe and row it across the sky...so I can't really call them smarter. But both civilizations were intelligent and far superior to their surrounding empires.
You've just listened to Joe Rogan about this right? But in all seriousness: The christians weren't any "Smarter" just becuase they didn't have a strange explanation for the sun (I don't even think they HAD any good explanation for what the sun was, just that god created it somehow). What is amazing is, of course, how the freak they built the pyramids (as well as the sphinx and other impressive palaces and monuments). It's like it's doable, but the administrative and organizing WORK gotta be tremendous. But many people say it was the pyramids that put Egypt in economical collapse.
This is pretty impressive, but it's hard to argue we haven't gotten more intelligent as a whole (under most definitions at least)
Well, we KNOW more now, but what speaks for us having higher levels of intelligence and creativity than say the ancient greeks? Of course, If I have stimulated my intellect my entire life I will develop to be smarter than someone in the middle ages wha has been dirt farming all his life, but genetically we might still be on the same level.
Also one could say that our principles and society is more intelligently structured now than say, the dark ages, which could be expressed as "We are smarter than them". But I guess it is a question of definition
