You mean the greek thing? Quite amazing. Just proves that we really haven't become smarter over the ages, we've just built our science on what our previous generations had already deiscovered.

The Greek culture and science is so freakin' mind boggling; They discovered almost all of classical geometry including trigonometry but they still couldn't accept the existence of irrational numbers.

What do you mean?

"When I hear athletes call themselves warriors, it does bother me a little bit. When I think of a warrior, I think of the Marines I've led in combat, those Marines that sacrificed so much...no showers, little food, no contact with their family, all for their love for their brother Marine and for their love for their country. That's a warrior, willing to lay his life on the line. I've had Marines that have laid their lives on the line for the man next to him, and for their family and country. That's a warrior. The guy who goes into some athletic contest who has no war experience, in my eyes, really has no right to call himself that. That's a coveted thing to call someone, and that's what I call my Marines. Those are warriors." - Brian Stann

It is a common mistake to think they are not as smart as we are but we have more technology etc.

The Egyptians used maths for the pyramids, in one of them the angle changes half way.

The Romans had sewerage systems. In Herculaneum it had an effective drainage system. In Pompeii it didn't have a drainage system but the roads peaked in the middle so the water would run off.

The Greek civilization is very valuable to what we know about history as they themselves were fascinated with recording the current happens of their age with their own and other civilizations. Very knowledgeable scholars not to mention, a fair few things we know about astronomy were discovered by the Greeks originally.

A big mystery is apparently the Aztec could read the future by the stars. They got many things correct including that of their last leader Moctezuma. The calendar runs out in 2012 so it could the end of the world or they hadn't got up to mapping that far yet

Sorry to ramble on, history is exciting to me. One of my areas of expertise.

Roman technology is one of my favorite technologies of ancient civilizations to study.

It just amazes me.

Why anyone would say they weren't as smart is far beyond me. Everything we know is based on their discoveries. Heck, one guy figured out the circumfrence of the earth by noticing a difference in length of shadows at different cities at the same "time". That's pretty freaking smart!

Just imagine what we lost in the Library of Alexandria...

whiskey, racism, money, grease, twinkie's, guns.....yep lol thats about it

This is pretty impressive, but it's hard to argue we haven't gotten more intelligent as a whole (under most definitions at least)
