Boy stabbed at my brothers school

Quote:
A 14-year-old boy is in hospital after being stabbed while at school.

Police were called to Ayr Academy in Ayrshire at about 0915 GMT on Monday after the pupil was seriously injured.

He was taken to Ayr Hospital and transferred to Glasgow's Yorkhill Hospital, where his condition was described as stable.

Strathclyde Police said a 14-year-old had been arrested in connection with the incident and was expected to appear at Ayr Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

A spokeswoman for South Ayrshire Council said: "Following the incident at Ayr Academy, which is being investigated by Strathclyde Police, the council will ensure that all staff and pupils are given necessary support and guidance to help them through this difficult time."

Now you hear about this stuff all the time but it hits home when my brother is at the school. The kid was the year below him. It turns out is the teacher nipped out of class for a bit and The Stabber pulled a knife and stabbed the boy in the back four times then the teacher came back and held the boy down.

My brother says the stabber was a wee quiet boy and not the type to do such things, so its suspected he has been bullied a bit, no excuse I know but he
is not a ned or troublemaker as one would immediately think.

This kind of stuff is the worst in schools. When your my age (23) it worries you about having kids and putting them into the school system. I have more of a problem because I love in detroit. I would not let my kid go to detroit schools. There isa shooting about once a week or two at a school. School is in my mind about as safe as a crackhouse guarded by cops. I could get any drug, weapon anything when I was in school. I cant get half that stuff now that I am out.

always difficult to hear this stuff.

High School's just too tough on some kids, it's unfortunate.

With a knife too. I had friends and classmates that got stabbed with pencils but never knives...glad it wasn't your bro...is about all I can say.

This is why I think private schools are a good thing...at least the parents have control (if they can afford it or the kid earns it) on where their child goes.

Well I will say Ayr Academy is a hole, but my parents went there when it was not such a hole, or at least thats what their rose tinted glasses will tell them so it is shocking but its also a sign of the times. Still the school has been in existence in some form since 1000(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayr_academy) so its older than some countries so it must be doing something right.

The thing about private schools imo is that state schools force you to deal with all walks of life, you just would not get that in a private school so I feel they are a good learning ground for later in life.

It sounds like a random kid with problems (perhaps being bullied), rather than endemic violence. Though it is Scotland so...

Yeah it is a isolated incident if it happened in the street I would have not brought it to attention, I'm just shocked because I know loads of people who have went to this school, half my family went there and such things are being highlighted more and more in the media.

Private schools aren't the solution.

Most private schools are actually worse then public schools, at least drug wise, because of all the rich kids that go there.

At my public high school the biggest drug problem was weed but at the private schools around us and the next town over, which is really rich, they have a lot of problems with coke and other more hardcore drugs.
