Everyone should post more often really

Just read a story about a businessman being killed by a pitbull he'd owned for 6 years. Feel bad for his family but it's almost like people ask for it.

When will people realize that those dogs are for fighting and not household pets? Someone should release the Golden Eagles on 'em

I disagree completely about pitbulls. I believe it is something that happens that sets them off whether it be neglect/constantly staying in their crate, abusing it, maybe even the dog being abused by a kid or something outside of parents sight.

I have a pitbull and he is easily the nicest dog I have ever met. Never mean, very playful and very obedient. I know countless others who raise their pits right and they are great dogs as well.

That's why you should get dogs from reliable kennels and breed them properly. I don't know the story so I'm not the one to tell though.

It's not the breed at all, it's the owner or the way it was brought up. People who buy and breed Pitbulls, or Staffordshire Bull Terriers, or other so called 'dangerous' breeds specifically to fight, to protect and to use as intimidation are disgusting and spit in the face of real owners and dog lovers. The reason you hear about them so often is when something DOES go wrong, is that they're so powerful they do alot of damage. There are plenty of small dogs that are incredibly aggressive due to how they were raised and people find it funny or cute.

Within the last 2 weeks, I have been in a dog park, with literally 30+ dogs all on the same 100metre or so field, without one incident. At least 50% were so called dangerous breeds, Staffies, German Shephards, Rotties and they were extremely playful and lovely dogs. Unfortunately I've yet to meet a Pitbull due to the ban the UK has on them.

I firmly believe it is not the breed. If that were the case every Pitbull would be a disaster.

Not only because they find it funny or cute, but they are also much harder to 'punish' you could say. There's no denying that whenever your dog does some stupid shit you punish him in whatever way you choose, but it's harder for a small dog because it can only take so much punishment.. made sense?

Agreed. And people that have the intention to train fighting dogs normally turn to pits because of their build. Compact and stocky, makes them extremely powerful dogs.

Doesn't mean they are all fighting dogs though. Its like stereotyping humans to all be fighters because some of them are professional boxers.

You guys all make good points about dogs but, statistically speaking when Rusty's right he's right.

from 1982 - 2010 pit bull terriers were responsible for 166 deaths and 691 serious attacks on children in the U.S. and Canada. source

That's more than the next 7 most dangerous dog breeds combined.

I've always said no one should have a bull dog around kids. Now I do. She's the sweetest dog in the world she sleeps with my kids and watches over them like they were hers.

I keep telling myself she's a boxer.
