I wonder Squirrel, do you buy your own insurance?
I get it through work. A rediculously high amount of money is cut from my check bi-weekly. But its a helluva lot less than I'll have to pay if I get my arm broken, or get in a car accident.

...Unbelievable.

Makes me appreciate the NHS that much more.

My last few years at work I watched that ridiculous amount go higher and higher as well as the deductibles while the actual benefits went lower and lower. I ended up with something like you probably have. where I would still have to pay about 35% of that broken arm or million dollar death.

It's an insane, unbreakable cycle. you have to have insurance to even approach paying those costs which are jacked way up because insurance is paying for it.

any ******* attempt to fix this horrible mess is branded socialism = communism = Unamerican = enemy=

Yeah, from working in the medical field, and having close contact with hospitals, ERs, billing centers. A good approximation is this:

Sit in a bed in an ER? +40,000
Get a test? +10,000
Take a pill? +5,000
Talk to a GP (ER doctor)? +20,000
Talk a specialist? +50,000
Get a procedure? +20,000-100,000 depending on the procedure

For a broken arm:
1 er visit at least (40k)
2-4 tests (20-40k)
2-4 pain pills (10-20k)
2-3 doctor conversations (40-90k)
1-3 procedures depending on the severity (20-200k)

Minimum 150k before insurance.

With all this being said... I LOVE Canada, my mom just had a big operation a few days ago where he actually had a bad elbow replaced with an artificial elbow. It was an extensive operation that included staying at the hospital overnight. We didn't pay a penny lol

Yeah, if its the ER doc, you're paying to be diagnosed and have your treatment determined (legally, only a doctor can diagnos anything), if its a speicalist its a "consultation."

My sister broke her arm, had two surgeries, stayed at the hospital for a day or two after both surgeries, also didn't pay a penny.
