Seriously I've always wondered this and never had enough desire to research it. How the hell does your money work? Like in the us and canada there are dollars and cents and the amount is always in that form. But I watch people from the UK or TV and they say all kinds of shit. Forgive my spelling but I've heard pence, quid and pound, seriously how does it work. I always assumed it was like dollars and cents where the cents make up a dollar but when I hear oh that's 28 quid and that's 500 pounds or whatever it seems its not.

Pounds (£) are the equivalent of Dollars ($). Depending on the region you are from there are variuos slang terms for them such as quid or bar. the queens english and official currency is pounds (and pence) though.
Pence, is the equivalent of cents. there are 100 pence (100p) in a pound.
