So, statistically speaking 33% of people involved in traffic related fatalities, alcohol played a role. That leaves 66% of all traffic fatalities in the year of 2006 not alcohol related. So, to try and use fear mongering or blanket statements about me potentially killing someone. I am twice as likely to do that when I am sober.

You do realise that this is completely logically false?

Edit: I mean, not even close, you are so far off it's insane. You clearly have NO understanding of statistics.

I hope the people trashing ZZ on this have never once driven after having any amount of alcohol otherwise you all just being high and mighty but unbelievably hypocritical. If you honestly and truthfully have never driven once without any amount of alcohol then I honestly commend you.

I don't condone drinking driving and I think most people have had a situation where drinking and driving has affected themselves, a family member or someone they knew. As a younger person I definitely made the mistake(s) of drinking and driving when I most definitely should not have had. Being older now I don't do that anymore but for me to shit on someone when knowing full well that I've done it in the past would be hypocritical.

Grown-ups can comsume alcohol responsibly and not be too impaired to drive. To say that a grown man cannot consume 3-4 drinks over 3-5 hours and not be safe to drive is most definitely not always the case. Now I'm not talking about slamming shots or drinking those fish bowl size drinks but a mature person can reasonably consume alcohol over a period time mixed with food and not doing shots and still be alright to drive. I've gone to parties where over the course of 3-4 hours I've had 3-4 beers but I weigh 210 lbs, I know my limit and if I assess myself to not be able drive safely I simply call a cab or ride with a friend who has not been drinking.

I will say this a about drinking and driving....Alot of people in the world just have these opinions to make themselves look good and innocent.

The reason its .08 is because the actions of a few ruin it for others and they just blanket everyone into one law and the law makers figured out it was a great money maker and a popular opinion on their part for people who disagree with drinking period. Do I think the law is good...yeah because that 1 out of 10 at .08 will play the role of a drunk driver and may harm another person. the other 9...just make them money and they know it. If they really want to protect people then they should ban cell phone usage and loud music on highways, I would think they kills alot more people than drunk drivers this day and age. They should be treated the same way as a DUI charge.

ZZtigers situation is alot like others...they pass the sobriety test with flying colors, which was designed to check the response and alertness of a driver but when they pass they go to step 2, the breatalizer and the guy blows .08 and they bust him, remeber the cop needs to make his quota this month as well. Which is bullshit but its ok for 80 year old woman to drive in rush hour traffic with 0 reaction time..Situation here at home...80 year old woman did not see a bike and turned right into him killing him and his wife....When they checked her abilities and eyesight they found out she should not have been driving anyway but the DMV gave her a liscens...same damn senerio, somebody was killed but its morally right to be simpathetic for the old lady.

Way to slove the .08 problemm is to buy your own damn breathalizer, they are very affordable (especially on Ebay), I have three and drive by what it tells me because as ZZ said at .08 I am normal. but do not drive due to the laws. I bet if ZZ had of ate something prior, he probaly would have only blew a .02-.04 By the way I am 31 and never had any problems because I abide by the rules as did ZZ because he was under the limit, lableing him as a dumbass is just common senseless.

Wow im going to rep you for the amount of logic and reasoning in your post. Meh I talk on my cell phone while I drive all the time, but thats not illegal. And I know talking on that cell phone impairs me worse than being over the legal limit and driving.

Sorry, bud, but the effects of the alcohol havne't worn off when your blood still has that much alcohol in it, plain and simple. You may have felt like they had... but again, they hadn't.

This is wrong. 0.079 isn't even that much... hence how its still below the legal limit.

You should read Sterling's post, he covers this.

I love that I got a warning for my post. ZZtigerZZ81, if I were twice the douche you are, then surely I would have no problem in jumping in a car and taking other people's lives in my hands. Sure, sober people cause accidents too, but I don't think I could live with myself if I took someone's life boozed at the wheel.

I occasionally talk on my cell phone or text while driving. It's just as dangerous if not more so than drinking and driving. It is common knowledge in many areas that in that particular area, the police "don't write those tickets." Why? It's harder to prove and no legislation has come through yet that woud make it lucrative for cities/counties/states to bust ppl for talking or texting while driving. If that ever happens, then cell phone use will become the nasty, explosive issue that alcohol and driving obviously is.

My point is that a lot of the reasoning behind our current legislation on DUI has to do with the state being able to make money, and if you think local and government agencies struggling to stay in operation and stay staffed give a shit about the moral and legal issues, you're wrong.

I'd love it if we could keep this thread civilized, maybe some of you could use the big-boy manners; but clearly that's asking too much.
