Milkkid, no offense, but I am not your cousin. I am not a bad driver and being just below the legal limit of alcohol is not going to change that. How old was your cousin when he got in the wreck anyway? Trying to pass someone is aggressive driving anyway, especially two cars at once. But doing that through an intersection is just careless. I am betting there were no-passing lines at that section of the road and he was being a bad driver. If you sleep better at night thinking that alcohol is the sole reason your cousin is in jail, so be it. But I am betting that he was better then you think and knew exactly what he was doing.

Being a good driver has nothing to do with drink driving. Everyone becomes a worse driver once they have been drinking. It's like saying a recently blind person wouldn't do that because he is a good driver. Alcohol effects your judgement, vision, tracking, perception, processing and attention. The impairment of the most important skills can occur at a very low blood alcohol concentration. You may feel like you can drive fine, but I've known plenty of times when I've thought 'I'm not that drunk at all' and I totally was loads drunk. I don't touch a drop if I'm driving, I won't even have one drink and that's a moral decision on my part. Dicing with the legal limit, whether you think you're okay to drive or not, makes you(in my opinion) a douche. That is not an insult, that is my opinion so I can't get a smacked botty from the admin for it.

Well we aren't you. Some of us are capable of telling when we are drunk.

Alcohol effects your judgement. If we were left to decide if we were okay to drive, the roads would be a freakin war zone.

Some people are incapable of making this judgement for themselves, I'll admit. But not all!

If you're suggesting that once a person has had even a single drink they are no longer capable of determining if they are safe to drive... well, statistically, that's kind of silly. I mean I don't know about your state, but mine has TONS of bars and the vast majority of the people leaving them are driving themselves home, after drinking. I doubt they are carrying around pocket breathalyzers, so all those people are making that judgement call themselves and yet seem to make the trip safely on a regular basis. If this was really such a sure-fire way to have an accident, these bars would need no parking lots because they wouldn't have any living driving customers.

I'm not arguing that there should be no legal limit, but its silly to imagine that alcohol is such a wild chemical that no one can make a decision or drive with even a little in their system. As an adult who drinks even moderately you have to be capable of making this decision on your own (and not the least reason being that there is no way to REALLY tell if you're totally sober yet or not short of sleeping 8 hours or carrying the aforementioned pocket breathalyzer).

Everybody good, plenty of slaves for my robot colony?

Like the guy who never changed his CD in the car again because he accidentally hit someone while changing a CD? Or talking on the phone? Or eating a burger with one hand?

It would really depend on the circumstances- if it was a situation where I felt that I couldnt have avoided the person regardless of my state, I don't think my opinion would change at all. And those situations do happen- people hit other people while totally sober all the time.

I'm curious paulyj, do you drive regularly?
