Question about job/career.

So, right now im working a good job but it is basically seasonal. For a while now I've been thinking of going back to school or just a change of career, etc. Ive always ended up doing labourer types of jobs and basically just think I want a change.
I wouldn't mind trying some kind of office/computer types of job or something along those lines. The problem is I have no idea what to take or how to get into something like that considering I don't have much experience and what not.
Now that im laid off, Im just finding it hard to know what field to get into, and what to apply for that I could possibly get a start position and work my way up. I can also go to school and pretty much get it paid for because im laid off, any recommendations on what course, or jobs to apply for?

Health care.

Always a huge amount of job openings all across the country. Decent pay also.

Good luck with whatever you do. I have been unemployed for 11 months now and the job market hasnt improved at all since I was fired.

Congratulations you won!

You don't want a career based on pay. You want a career based on what you enjoy.

This, I spent 7 almost 8 years being gone away from home working 14, 15 hours a day outside sweating in the summer, freezing in the winter and you know I'm working as a for a roofing company doing shop work bending flashing and what not and I make literally about half what I was making before but I work from 7 am to 5 pm monday to friday. I am alot happier 28 out of 30 days of the month, I miss the money but its not everything.

Go on a world trip and feel free for the first time of your life do it for a year or 2 or even more.

Then come back and start something new or go back to school. The better your education is, the better is your life.

But first go out enjoy life and enjoy yourself!

If you can get your continued education paid for due to the layoff, I strongly encourage you to go back to school. You'll very likely wind up making more money, so you can do the things you love when you're not working.

Unless you're lucky enough to get a job you love, of course.

Ditto with with others are saying. Get into a career you like. If you're not sure what that is setup appointments and talk to people. Just be up front with them that you're trying to figure things out. Most people like helping others.

Good luck

A friend of mine was in this same boat about a year ago. Got laid off from a decent job, got on unemployment turning 28k annually from the government. Well through some change in the system apparently you can stay on unemployment indefinitely. The guy applies to three places a week that he has no chance of getting hired to and apparently thats all it takes to stay on it.

Personally I've never liked or enjoyed work. In fact if I got laid off I might do what my friend's doing. In my mind all work is just whoring out your time, so might as well take top dollar for it. As long as its relatively easy, and I don't mind whatever it is im doing its about the same as doing anything else imo.
