Good debate on god. Sam Harris is great at articulating the irrationality of religion.

You know what my pastor tells us a lot of the time? He says, "I'm not religious, I just preach the gospel of Jesus Christ." Come to think of it, I really don't like religion either. There are a lot of man made rules in religion.

Honestly, as long as your obeying the 10 commandments, I think that's enough. I can actually agree, religion is a scam. But tithe and offerings is not a scam, no matter what anyone says. It's completely optional, your giving what you want to give. Besides, it's practically the only way churches get money to.. ya know... stay a church.

So, your pastor doesn't believe Jesus is the Son of God? Otherwise, he's quite obviously religious.

Enough for what? To get into heaven? To keep the Jews' end of the Covenant? What about believers in other Gods and atheists/agnostics? They can't keep the first few, even though they all tend to agree on the rest.

You'd think the God being worshipped would float them.

one thing ive always wondered is whether or not alcohol was generally against the rules of most christian religion?

There are about a zillion sects of christianity and they have differing views. It doesn't help that there are many versions of the bible, as well. For some catholic christians, alcohol is a traditional part of their worship. For 7th Day Adventists, it's a huge no-no. Most protestant and baptist sects don't disallow it entirely, but some of them consider it to be a dangerous indulgence.

There's actually a lot of conflicting passages regarding alcohol in the bible:
