The most controversial stand-up comedian of all time

Who ya got? Remember, most controversial, not the best. I just watched some Dice the other day and I really forgot how incredibly vulger and repulsive he was, and then I remembered that's why he's the mother****ing Dice Man. Actually, I'll have to go with Dice, with Carlin being a close second and Bruce following.

Who ya got?

for generation of comedy that they are from ect and mixing talent with controversy I went with carlin, he tells his controversial jokes with so much humorous talent that it makes his jokes more controversial

Lenny Bruce wins this by far IMO...... he went to jail for the things he said on stage.

But sadly most people dont know of him and he wont win this poll.

A lot of the things he said arent that controversial now but without him everybody else on the list would have been in a different line of work.

I think time in place counts, but shouldn't count all together, I mean I wouldn't call Elvis the controversial star because they wouldn't show the lower half of his body on television.

I have Bruce at third for that exact reason, but I do believe Carlin and Dice were a bit more edgy and offensive. Carlin had both going for him, the talent, time, and the vulgarity, but atleast he had bits where he'd tone down the vulgarity. Dice Clay, his entire bit was nothing but profanity, sexism, racism, vulgarity, crowd interaction, everything.

I went with Carlin.

For his time I say carlin. Now he wouldnt be much for controversy but for being a comedian back in the day he did great at making people hear something new.

I had to go with Lenny Bruce. After reading "How to Talk Dirty And Influence People" I feel that what he did at the time was way more controversial. Not that I think the other guys AREN'T, it is just that Bruce paved the way for them...

I'd say David Cross deserves to be on this list...

Alex_DeLarge 04-14-2010 06:07 PM

He was an honorable mention. He's "edgy" but nowhere near as much as these guys imo.

Frankie Boyle also worth an honourable mention. He's made some hilariously controversial comments not only in his stand-up material, but on British comedy 'panel' show Mock The Week.
