Firstly I personally thought it was terrible. But to each their own.
I hated that it seemed to be a carbon copy of the original, munis everything good about the orginal.
The "Snake" technique that was supposed to take a lifetime to perfect, was perfected by a 12 year old during his what? second attempt? And it was by far the poorest replacement for the Crane technique(which was primo!)I could have ever imagined.
The wirework. Something great about the first one was that it wasn't stupid high flying techniques with all these jazzy flips and whatnot. It was as realistic as you could really get in an 80s movie.
It was called The Karate Kid, but was about Kung Fu, and they had the balls for the kid to yell at his mom for calling Kung Fu Karate! It wasn't ironic, it was just stupid.
Overall, it was likely a mistake to even remake the movie. The original one is still better than many new movies to this day. It seemed to me to be just another rehash to make a quick buck.
Also: on awkward and perverted note, my buddy and I joked that the best part of the movie was the horribly innappropriate dancing of that 13 year old girl! It was more awkward than Jackie Chan putting the kid's head in his lap...awkward
