Advice! Give it to me...
Today is day number 1.

I'm quitting smoking. I'm using the Nicoderm CQ patch and it kinda seems to be working.... but I'm not sure if it's cut out for the job..

Any of you that have quit have any tricks of the trade?

I have tried quitting but have failed. I always failed for the same reason though and it was going to a party. I could go for a week but as soon as I started drinking around other people smoking, I had to have them again.

Don't drink, go to bed early, It never worked for me for the same reasons as HOGH but the patch screwed up my sleep and I kept waking up and having crappy dreams. Don't end up tired as hell tommorow and just add to your stress.

I quit cold turkey after 15 years of chain smoking... Wifey had a bun in the oven... it was NOT easy...

I avoided every situation that I associated with smokin... I didnt head out for one during my break... and I quit drinking temporarily to start (smokin & drinking used to go hand in hand... didnt do one without the other). I knew that drinking would lower my inhibitions and my resolve... so I had a no booze policy.

The biggest problem was not smoking when I was driving... I started chewing LOTS of gum... mints/halls... anything & everything to substitute that oral fixation.

Since I wasnt gonna drink, I ate a hellva alot... yeah, probably not the best thing... i gave up one bad habit for another... I figured the lesser of evils.

When I watched TV/Movies, I smoked... listened to music, I smoked... this had to change, so I ate :) ...popcorn, chips.. you name it I ate it.

I actually kept a pack on me at all times... that way I wouldnt go out and buy one... because the rational is that if you buy it, you smoke it... but if you have it on you, you can simply say NO for now... and do shit to distract yourself... ie. tv ;)

Good luck man, its possible... just f'n difficult.

I hear an old secret is to keep cylindrical shaped objects in your mouth to simulate smoking...

As long as your commited to the quit then your set. You will still get cravings I still do lol. I used blow pops when I first started and it worked great! Just stay true to the cause man and stay mentaly strong.

two words bubble gum, bubble gum, bubble gum, it helped me out a bunch after that first week it kept my mouth busy and i truly realized how much cash i was saving and thats all it really took

yeah, having the gum around really helped...

basically I had a pack a smokes on me and I had a bunch o gum... it always came down to a choice... I would literally talk out loud to myself because I was so f'd up... and spell out the choices for me... I CAN have the smoke if I want... OR... I can just chew the damn gum... so I would just procrastinate and just tell myself... I will have gum, for now... ;)
