Money.

When something gets popular like hip hop did in the early 90's, eventually the music machine comes in and extracts only the things that will make it amenable to 85% of the population.

And of course, because most people are idiots or too young to have a good opinion on anything their taste is horrible. You get music with no lyrics, no themes, shitty flow, retarded beats and effects etc. etc.

Also, Biggie, Tupac and Big L all died too early. Those are some monsters right there, they might have put up some major classics of integrity and maintained the culture.

To be fair, there are actually good rappers around now, its just they're either underground, or semi-retired. You have to find the stuff if you want it.

I totally agree. Thats why I only listen to old rap..or like 90%. I have a big collection of 90's hiphop. 93 - 96 were the golden years imo, and im looking to collct pretty much everything from that era. There is some decent stuff nowadays but most of it's just crap.

It is not only rap but alot of music these days. It is a sign of the times. Your getting older and the new generation is coming. Just like back in the day you did not like your parents music and you liked the stuff coming out at the time. Honestly Jay-Z has skill. He can actually flow with real lyrics. Eminem holds is down %100 and shows that lyrics and style still matter in the music industry. You cant just come up with some random lyrics, a random beat with stupid looking people and expect it to be good. Anyone can sell anything, There is always an idiot out there willing to buy stupid shit. These days it is music. For good rap you need to go underground. Way underground until you never hear lil wayne's "Voice" or name again. I think it started to go down hill when lil john came around. WHAT?????????

You don't like Jay-Z? Sure Dre looks like his 100 but i'm 100% sure that Detox is going to be the best album in a while. There are awesome rappers out there but too much crap as well.

I don't get what the deal is with the Bieber hate. I personally don't like his style of music and songs. However, he's big right now, the same way Spears/Lohan/backstreet boys/etc etc etc, all got popular, yet all their music sounds like crap. Even Gaga is in the spotlight heavily, yet most of her music isn't that good, with the exception of her like 3-4 songs.

It's not like he's taking over all music, rock/metal/rap/all music is still going as strong as ever, but pop has ALWAYS been in the spotlight above all other music, Lohan/Spears/backstreet boys/Gaga/Justin (temberlake and Bieber)/Lopez/Miley, and countless more.

Rap/rock/metal hasn't been in the spotlight for a long, long time. Bieber is the new Spears, his light will pass and a new one will take it, that's just how it goes. I don't really get the hate.

As for the rap discussion, I don't really listen to rap so I can't really comment.
