I live in brazil...pretty obvious which side im on

there isnt a right or wrong awenser here, i think it depends on each society you are a part of, different cultures will have different awensers

the police here in brazil are terrible at protecting us and most are corrupt and many thieves easily get illegal guns, its the easiest thing to do here, aside from drugs, so if we were to ban guns here in brazil man we would be SCREWED

but actually not many brazilians have guns, i dont have one though i wish i did, just this year my house got robbed again and we were tied up and held at gun point...if i had a gun i MIGHT have been able to stop them

BUT we did live...they let us live so we were lucky, sometimes its best to not do anything and live then try dumb shit and die but not all thieves are nice like that, our other neighboors werent so lucky that same night...so should we risk it?

but if you live in a country where its rare to get robbed and most of the crimes in the city doesnt involve innocent ppl and is more about gang wars and stuff AND the police actually do their job well then i dont see a reason to have guns

though i dont think we have the right to ban them....could make it more difficult to aquire one though, but i think its everybodys right to own whatever they want as long as they are responsible enough to own it

but at least here in brazil the reality is, if guns were banned and every1 KNEW they could come into our house and we couldnt protect ourselves man...i dont even want to imagine that situation

though americans do love guns way too much, i think many ppl own them when they dont really have to...like they live in safe places and never really even needed it, they just wanted one...why?

americans are very paranoid, here in brazil its not something common to just walk around with guns or for every1 to have a gun in their house yet for americans it is...i find it odd but i understand them...

hang on so you dont have a gun...CHECK

and they do ... CHECK

and you dont want guns banned. HUH?

if guns are banned its not the same guns being legal/regulated and the wrong ppl having illegal ones.

imagine a world where cars are banned. do you think ppl are still gonna be driving around in illegal cars. it dont make sense.

Using the United States as a point of reference, we arrive at the following conclusions:

Burglary – Widely believed as the gravest of property crimes, burglary is lower in US today than in the 80s. As of 2000, US has lower rates than Australia, Canada, Denmark, England, Finland, and Wales. It has higher rates than Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Spain.

Homicide – US had been consistently high in homicide rates than most of the Western countries from 1980 – 2000. Though the rate was cut almost in half in the 90s, it is still higher than all nations without political and social turmoil with the 2000 rate of 5.5 homicides per 100,000 people. Countries entrenched in turmoil like Colombia and South Africa, had 63 homicides per 100,000 and 51, respectively.

**** – In the 80s and 90s, US rates were higher than most of the Western countries, but by 2000, Canada is leading. **** reports are lower in Asia and the Middle East.

Robbery – The past 2 decades saw a steady decline in the US. Countries with more reported robberies than US include England, Wales, Portugal, and Spain. Those with fewer are France, Germany, and Italy, and Asian countries plus the Middle East.

In overall crimes (the total of all mentioned crimes), US ranks the highest, followed by Germany, United Kingdom, France, and South Africa.

thats a silly way to look at it, a car would easily be spotted and stopped

a gun anyone can have at any time, maybe you missed the part where the POLICE HERE IN BRAZIL ARE TERRIBLE AND MOST OF THE TIME CORRUPT

if they ban guns that would just mean citizens who actually obey the law wouldnt be able to have one

while criminals would have all the guns they want, the criminals here all have illegal guns, so even if there was a ban they would STILL HAVE GUNS

and to make things worse they would KNOW that we dont have guns...we would just get robbed even more often without even a chance to defend ourselves

As far as the school shootings are concerned, the killers could count on one thing: their victims, and the teachers and staff, would be unarmed. The killers knew they would face no resistance -- because of "gun control" laws. What should be obvious is that if peaceful citizens are armed, then criminals will be deterred.

A cop would see the car, pull you over, done.

A gun is always hidden, illegal or not.

You have to take stats with a grain of salt. Here in the US, we report many more things than other countries may who have poorer Police and Government agencies.

I own guns for target shooting/fun for the most part. The majority own them for hunting. It's not always about protecting yourself. Just because it makes it easier to kill someone, doesn't change the fact that person is still a murderer at heart, and will do bad things anyway. America has always had a higher murder rate, even when guns were banned.

You're kidding right? Damn, sounds scary. If someone robbed me and held me at gun point all tied up for the second time, and at the same time, some time ago my neighbours got shot while in the same situation - I'd buy a plane ticket the next morning.
