Outrageous internet changes coming to Canada, March 1

Quote:
Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are about to impose usage-based billing on YOU.

This means we're looking at a future where ISPs will charge per byte, the way they do with smart phones. If we allow this to happen Canadians will have no choice but to pay MUCH more for less Internet. Big Telecom companies are obviously trying to gouge consumers, control the Internet market, and ensure that consumers continue to subscribe to their television services.

These Big Telecom companies are forcing small competing ISPs to adopt the same pricing scheme, so that we have no choice but to pay these punitive fees.

This will crush innovative services, Canada's digital competitiveness, and your wallet.

We urgently need to send a clear message to Ottawa, saying that we won't stand by while some of the most profitable companies in the country indiscriminately add new fees to our Internet bills. Enough is enough.

UPDATE: The CRTC just made a decision that paves the way for new internet fees to be added to your bill. To stop this we need to raise our voices now more than ever.
Basically after March 1 - we will have 25gig cap on all DSL (shit was already caped like crazy but you could still get unlimited or 200gig from smaller ISPs) and coming to cable as well.

Most of you heard that here in Canada we have some of the shittiest and most expensive internet service among developed countries. And this is like 2 steps back. Instead of developing this shit they are trying to kill it - most likely to protect TV cable/satellite (owned by them) from Netflix and such...

Please read what you can do here http://www.antiubb.com/what-can-i-do/ and sign petition here http://openmedia.ca/meter

Let everyone know !!! let's stop those clowns from having us

Thanks

Even though I'm not a huge fan of my country, atleast the internet here is top notch. A bit more than 20$ a month for pure 100mbps up and down. It's hard to believe that I actually used to have like a 1mbps net or even lower a while back.

Anyways, all I got to say is - download as much porn as you can!

100 is good. Im disappointed in American speed. I hear South Korea on average has much higher than our best, premium internet connection speeds.

Same here! 100 mbs
Down here, the Internet is great and it's not expensive.

At least one thing is working in this country.

Our PM has already said he would veto anything like that from the ISPs. I'm with Telus, have a 15mb up, 6mb down, 120GB a month limit for $50 a month, and it won't be changing anytime soon.

This was scary, but it isn't happening now.

I guess public opinion was made pretty evident to the greedy folks trying to make this order.

100% unlimited internet 12 years and running for me here in Nova Scotia With nothing changing any time soon, hopefully, anyway.
