Didn't do much as far as the Jeep goes today but I did get something done on the Suburban I've been meaning to do. As far as the Jeep goes, I just sandblasted the mounted tabs we made the other day and stopped there. My buddy had some work done on his back and I won't be able to mount the control arms by myself so I decided to swap the rear bumpers out.
I acquired this bumper more than 10 years ago and have had plenty of vehicles it was supposed to go on but never made it happen. So, about 9:00 this morning I went and dug it out of the corner of my mothers back yard and threw it in the back of the truck. She wasn't sad to see it go
I wanted to unbolt this one but on the first carriage bolt it rounded out the square hole in the bumper and started spinning like every other one I've tried to take out. You can see the melted rubber strip where I torched from the inside. Had a small fire there for a minute lol. Off came the old chrome unit.
Here I am welding the new one on.
I'm picking up the welding part pretty quick it seems but welding above your head under the truck is a pain in the ass. Not only are the welds not as good but the hot sparks and shit falling down on you is aggravating.
And the after shot. Went ahead and cut off the center ball and mounted a 2 inch tube underneath so I can run a receiver or cargo basket.
I'm planning on using a wire wheel to clean it up and to paint it black tomorrow but we'll see how that goes. Thanks for reading.
