On Saturday on my way home from work i got a ticket. Basically im tired and looking forward to getting home. I was turning right onto the free way. It was a RED LIGHT but that usually does not matter when making right turns. I waited for all the opposite traffic cars to make their left turn and then when it was clear i proceeded to make a right turn. Next thing i know the cop that i knew was behind me turned his lights on and pulled me over. Supposedly there was a sign somewhere that said "No right turns on red lights". I told him i just got off work im a bit tired and i honestly just did not see any sign that said that, it was a mistake and it wont happen again. He did not care that it was a humanly mistake that did not affect anyone anywhere even though i knew he was behind me and i would obviously not do anything illegal on purpose knowing he is right there. Now i have to report this ticket to my work, i dont classify for traffic court since i got my first speeding ticket recently (I was in a hurry turning in some papers for my job). So now i have a smudge on my record, im going to have to pay a fine, my dad will have to pay more for insurance (And we are trying to buy a new house currently), i have to report this to my work or i could lose my job, all because i did not notice a pointless sign that in all reality has no business being there since the same exact right turns are allowed all over the place at any intersection but for some reason they decided to make it illegal in this certain intersection.
I just really really despise cops like that. I hate to say this but i literally have so much hate for this cop right now.
I know i made a mistake but it was an honest mistake that i am sure he has made himself. Its not like there are glowing arrows pointing at this sign and i chose to not read it. I literally just did not see the damn thing especially since i was tired from work and i just wanted to get home.
That was my first cop encounter where i felt totally raped. Most of the time they are completely fair and understanding. This guy just.... i dont even want to say it.
I understand your frustration, and sometimes it certainly does feel like the police and the traffic laws are simply tax collectors/generators.
On the other hand, in reading your post, I got the distinct impression that things are rarely your fault:
You made an illegal turn, but since you were tired and didn't see the sign, the cop is the bad guy...
Another time, you were in a hurry and so chose to speed, but again, seemed to justify that choice by saying you were rushing to get some papers submitted...
On top of that, you admit that you could pay for your own insurance, but have somehow coerced your father into doing so.
So ultimately, your problem isn't "cops like that"; your problem is you. You
make poor choices, and when the consequences hit, you
make excuses to justify your poor choices. You
also choose to use your father.
I realize that my post is likely going to piss you off a bit, and that's natural. My intention wasn't to enrage you, however; my intention was to provide you with a different perspective.
Pay your fines, stop speeding, stop making excuses, and pay your own way. You're old enough.
