What's everyone's heritage around here? Where are you from?

This may have been done before, but I've been venturing out of the UFC section more and more lately and thought I would kick off a new thread.

The build up to last night's fight saw Cain getting a lot of attention of course, and once again the whole "Mexican American" thing surfaced. Now, I've said it before... I'm all for people having pride in their heritage, and completely support Cain and his Brown Pride.

A few years back my father actually paid pretty high dollar to have a couple of researchers do a study on the heritage of our name. It was fascinating to me.

The last name Clover actually originates in Wales (Props KRY!!)... however the group of Clovers that my family came from had settled in Ireland years before coming over here to the states... where some 100 years later, my immediate family would come into play.

So I guess I would be of Welsh and Irish decent on my fathers side. On my mother's side, it's Irish and Native american... so ultimately I claim my main heritage as Ireland.

Any of you guys or gals ever looked into your families history? Anything you can share?

My family dates back to Portugal until my parents can remember. My siblings and I are first generation Canadians, everyone else is Portuguese.

Mom's side sounds just like yours. Scotch Irish lots of red heads.

Dad's was a mystery that we are just now cracking. I'm 50 years old and have never once in my life met anyone with the same last name as me. Not one. they are out there. i used to check the phone book in every city i went to. There was always 1 or 2 in a big city but I never met one.

a few years ago we got some clues and so far through the majic that is the internet i have found more than 30 newspaper article about my great grandfather and grand father going all the way up to the NY TIMES. Turns out that Great grand dad was a famous lawman during prohibition and he and grand dad were Murder defendants in the Oj trial of their time. seriously. They murdered a cop in front of dozens of witnesses and got away with it. i've been working on their story for years... maybe i'll publish it in blog or something.

There are'nt many Garlands in Alabama and Mississippi. There is only one other Garland in the Mississippi Guard. Most live in Kentucky and the North East. I met a chick in Cali once that had my name.......Needless to say it was pretty awkward because we were having the convo about our names after sex.....very very weird lol.

My moms side were immigrants that moved to the south. About the biggest story on my moms side is my great great Grand father got gunned down in the middle of town over a hog. It was a big to do. The guy was trying to steal it from him.....Hard time back then lol.

I acredit my strong drinking liver to the Cragers lol

My mother's maiden name is from Turkey and my father's last name looks to be either French or it's a short version of an Italian name. Either way I'll never know because all the archives around here were destroyed by American bombs during WWII.

Past my father on his side is all Northern Irish. Great great Great something Grandfather is all Norwegian as far back as we can tell (Vikings or something). Mums side Scotland for quite far back but after that we think Spain for some reason. Don't know how my family know this but they do.

My Auntie traced her family back (not blood, she married my uncle) and found out in the late 1700's her ancestor stole a pig and was banned from Edinburgh (our capital) and it was a "so is all your family forever" kind of law so she technically is too lol

Thanks to Leakler for the sig
