Anti-Gun Thread

Read the story, pay attention, and learn how to not die in a crisis. Hopefully the title lures in the hippies around here.

If someone knows how to quote the article I would appreciate it. I know how much work it is to click a link

This guy needs to work on grammar. But he makes good points,

Quote:
1. Use protection if you treat wounded man, gloves, mask, face shield, gown… whatever you have if possible.
2. Stop any massive bleeding (if it present) by direct pressure on wound, elevation (extremity) or pressure points.
3. Remove dirt from wound by irrigation, i prefer hydrogen peroxide and sterile water, use sterile swab or sterile forceps for that.
4. Use iodine on sterile compresses, and dress the wound with bandages.
5. Start with antibiotic treatment (Xiclav or similar antibiotic)
6. Inspect wound every day, clean it, then use Iodine and compresses and bandaging.
Now remember, this all matters for you if YOU are only person with some medical knowledge and some medical supplies, if there is no doctor, no hospital, in other words if SHTF for real. If there is a higher medical authority than you available, look for it.

I noticed ! But as I said English aside he makes some good points. I will not be buying a pre-made kit but I have the layout for my own. A lot of people don't realize how important it is to have stuff in your house. Hell I have a smaller kit in my truck at all times. Yes the majority of the time it could take up to 30 mins for an ambulance to get to you. What if you are by your self? I think of crazy stuff like that all the time.

I read the thread title.. Rusty... Anti-gun... Lol what?

One thing the article leaves out, get to a hospital as soon as possible. It talks about how to deal with a gsw, but the truth is that it's going to kill you without a hospital. Best case scenario you are shot with a small calibre fmj in the arm and the bullet doesn't go through your shirt or jacket first. It's the fragments that will kill you if you manage to stop the bleeding. I tend to use hornady critical defense hollow points in my guns. Guaranteed expansion, we're leaving a huge channel wound, fragments of the bullet scattered around, bits of clothes the bullet went through and probably the bullet itself.

Almost always, no hospital no bueno.

My advice is to be careful, follow basic procedure with firearms and try not to get shot.

Yup. And don't forget shock; it'll kill you as often as not in these scenarios.

The wound itself might be treatable, but becasue of the debilitating effects of shock, the victim is often not in any condition to perform the treatment, so the wound becomes fatal.

ABC: Airway, Breathing, Circulation. Find what's bleeding the worst: direct pressure and elevate if possible. Keep warm. Get to the hospital ASAP.

meh its all pretty standard first aid, I am required to take first aid for work and have taken the course likely 8 or 9 times so I am pretty familiar with it.

A few things.

1. your title worked too well Rusty. i avoided this thread thinking you were picking a fight.

2. It's not a 1st aid course guys. A lot more gooder stuff here than that. read the action wins article. believe it.

3. shock is my friend. without it i wouldn't be here.
