And the rest of the world knows how to convert feet, yards, pounds, etc. Americans don't worry about it.

The Imperial system makes no sense and I often wonder when the US will catch up to the rest of the world. The metric system is so far superior its not even funny. People my parents age in Canada grew up learning to primarily use the imperial system and even they can not believe how absurd it is and easily and happily converted to a system that just makes sense.

They started teaching us the metric system in the 4th grade and told us that by the time we got to high school America would be completely converted.

That was in 1969. I'm not sure what happened.

I think the metric system was seen as a communist plot.

EDIT: Have you guys always called it Imperial? When I was in school we called it English.

Most adults I know call it American.

Britain is half/half.

We use grams/kgs as standard weight measurements except for human weight, when we use stones and pounds. Liquid is litres and mililitres.

Height is feet and inches.
