Hey guys I am new here. Long story short I have a garage with some mats in it and all kinds of boxing and mma gear. I have a few friends that i get together with and we train in grappling and striking just for fun. I recently bought a video camera and I recorded out last session and made a little movie of it. I plan on doing this everytime we train. We usually train once a week or so. My name is Jimmy (big guy in black sweatshirt), Patrick is the smaller guy, and William is the other big guy. I have a little bit of experience in boxing, and I am just now learning grappling. Patrick has done the Gracie Combatives DVD set and got his blue belt through that and he has trained at some BJJ gyms in the past. William has no experience what so ever. None of us train at a MMA gym and we do this just for fun. I would like to join a gym in the future and possibly even fight who knows.. but I figured I would share this video, constructive criticism is welcome. Like i said I will be making lots more of these videos so if you like to watch then subscribe to my channel on youtube and like the videos please. peace

I don't mean to come off as an elitist or anything but if you want to become a good fighter, you have to be trained by professionals. With your current situation you don't have good sparring partners. Your friend (William I think) will be learning at a better rate than you because he actually has difficulty against you guys.

Keep doing what you are doing but you need to be going to an MMA gym atleast once per week, then you can practice what you've learned in the lesson and film it. You won't just be randomly practicing you will be improving specific parts of your game.

Best of luck.

Blue Belt from a DVD? I don't think that's IBJJF certified..

Thanks for the advice. I do know that if I want to get better that I will have to go to a legit gym. We just kinda do this for fun. I posted this on sherdog and I got so much hate, it was funny. As far as the blue belt thing, yea it is actually legit. He is a certified Gracie Jiu Jitsu blue belt. They have that gracie combatives program on DVD and you do it all with a partner and then submit a video of you performing the blue belt test and if you pass then they send you a belt. I know its nowhere near as good as getting a belt from an actual gym but its all he had to work with so its better than nothing. thanks

Sherdog isn't the best representation of MMA fans. That's interesting, I did a search on the DVD set you are talking about and I read you can get a certificate but it's not actually IBJJF recognised. The site I looked at may or may not have been correct.
