Knife hands down for me.

If there was a copy of myself and we fought to the death, one with a knife and one with a bat the version of me with the bat would dead 9/10.

Its the predictability of the bat, its only dangerous under very certain conditions. If you have a bat and a guy comes straight at you, that bat has no power. You need to step and swing with the bat for it to become deadly, the knife needs almost nothing in order to a kill person. Knives are for killing. I've taken a bat away from a guy before and it really wasn't that hard. Something like a billy club or a police night stick would be much deadlier than a bat.

I do carry a gun, but against a knife you will still lose most of the time. The key is to control the knife or retreat while drawing your weapon. People simply do not understand the prowess or deadliness of knives.

Basically the 21 feet rule. Twenty-one feet is the minimum distance for an alert, prepared and armed (hand gun in holster) guy has a chance to shoot an attacker with a knife before the attacker will stab them. One and a half seconds is all it takes for that knife to be in you from 21 feet.

Even though I would prefer the knife, I think you are underrating the bat here. It's not like a police drill where the badguy has the element of surprise on his side, it's a deathmatch. The batguy knows the knifeguy is coming to kill him, and he knows he has to make his shot count. And even though winding up will but you in an awkward and somewhat immobile position, the blow from the baseball bat will be hard as f*ck. It will be deadly. The question is, can he time it right to where the opponent is not to far away and not to close, about 4-5 feet would be great, and can he hit the knifeguys head or neck, in which case knifeguy crumbles to the ground and the fight is all but over. On the flipside, can the knifeguy effectively use faints, put the batguy off balance and darth in to shank him , while dodging the blow. If think more often then not, knifeguy will pull it off, but I think it's close.

I'd go with the knife, it's lighter, faster and more flexible as it can both cut and stab very fast. The bat does have range and power but the speed is the winning factor for me. I say knife.

Knife, Hollywood has made it seem like disarming a knife is easy, but it takes almost nothing to get cut or stabbed, then it's practically game over. A bat, while effective, is a lot easier to control than a knife. You can close the distance on a bat and eliminate most of the threat it poses.

I'd totally rather fight someone who's using a bat than someone using a blade. I feel like I could either stay out of range and close the distance when I saw the guy start to swing the bat.

Against a knife the only way I would feel safe whatsoever is with a gun. A knife is just freaky and the idea of being 'gutted' is a little too distracting to me.

Also, I always sucked at swinging a bat.. while I think any idiot (especially one with combat sports experience) could stab someone.


NO experience with any weapons whatsoever, and I hope it stays that way. Fun thread though!

As I think about it, I think if I were a big guy, like 250+lbs, I might go with the bat.. that could be fun. As a 150-160lbs guy the bat might be too ambitious of a choice is all.

Yup, I thought the exact same thing. A 150 pound man can darth in faster with the knife, but create less force with the bat, and with a heavyweight it's the other way around.

This thread have been kinda knife-heavy so far. Somewhat surprising, although I'm in the knife camp myself.

Knife for sure. If it were knife vs. bat in a fight, the person with the bat only really has 1 swing to make something happen. If that swing isn't dead on, he is getting chopped up. Not to mention once the person with the knife is in close, the bat is essentially useless.

I have never used a actual bat but used a 3ft piece of 1" electrical pvc against a guy trying very hard to get me with a broken bottle ( big long piece of bottle) and it may have been due to my fear of dying but I came out pretty good, he did not, granted I didn't ko him like a bat might but that guy was F**KED up when it was over...

I would use the bat for the first swing and then discard it or let the opposition "take" it from me after he grabs it.

Everytime I've fought someone with a weapon, keeping the weapon was their main concern. I would just grab their weapon hand and start punching them in the eye with my other and they'd just take it.

They're like monkeys getting caught in the simplest trap because they won't release their grip
